Hello there,

Here’s a hand from a small $2 turbo rebuy/addon, not in the money but I think final two tables.

Villain is a strong small stakes player who I sharkscoped when he sat next to me because of his stack and his name “JUSTaN00b” which made me wonder if he is decent. +$4k or so at 7$ stakes. My sample on him is too low as HM2 isn’t working well with Merge ATM but 24/13 after 30 some hands, 2 of 2 fold to steal so far.  He Cbet 3 of 3 times.

Merge Network $300 Gtd – [+R, Turbo] (78494322-1) No Limit Hold’em Tournament – t1000.00/t2000.00 Blinds + t200.00 – 7 players – View hand 2564088

JUSTaN00b (): BB = 28.7, t57327

Toddle2011 (): BB = 15.4, t30743
ezzzzo (): BB = 27.8, t55636
Buzzz7 (): BB = 14.9, t29866
TheCrowJ3 (): BB = 16.8, t33628

Pre Flop: (t4400) Hero is with Q of diamonds K of spades
Hero raises to t4000.00, 5 folds, JUSTaN00b calls t2000

I eliminate the bottom 20% from his range because he isn’t calling ATC to defend the BB, especially against the other biggest stack

Flop: (t10400) T of spades J of hearts 6 of hearts (2 players)

JUSTaN00b checks, Hero bets t4500.00, JUSTaN00b calls t4500

Here it’s likely he has a ten or a jack.  He of course has many flush draws and lots of monster hands like premium pocket pairs, sets and monster draws.  He has a few floats but not many, mostly with low pairs or AX which all still beat me and would require a second barrel.

Turn: (t19400) K of diamonds (2 players)

JUSTaN00b checks

With the flush draw out there but my own open ender and now a pair which may or may not already be good, I can’t tell if I like a free card or not.  I am having trouble assigning him a range.  My sense is that I have the best hand more often than not but not by much, and regardless of who has the better hand, the other player has outs.  His check could mean A) he hopes to see a river as he has hearts or other showdown value, B) he is trapping with a set, two pair or a turned straight or C) he has given up.

Hero?

I think bet folding turn is fine… targeting QT QJ AJ all flush draws… if you check this behind and villain overbets river you are gonna hate life (this wont happen too much in a 2r but you get the point)

I would probably fold if villains check calls turn, and then donks halfish on the river when a h hits

I don't like bet-calling for ICM reasons at final two tables, though this would be my play earlier in tourney. I don't like bet-folding because Villain may just spaz out and show some hands you crush like QJ. If he's really passive I like bet-folding but otherwise I probably check it back and call small bets/fold to big bets on most rivers.
