Hey guys, new member, love the site and training videos thus far. I know it is mainly MTT strategy here, however, I ran into a tricky spot in the 3rd hand of a $7 6-max Turbo SNG on stars. Been grinding these on the side of MTT’s , mainly as a supplemental source of income, they seem pretty soft .

In this hand, I really had no reads on any players as it was the 3rd hand dealt. Just curious to see how people would have played the flop, or if anyones pre-flop move would’ve been different? Ultimately, call the riv? or fold and try to grind out short-stack?

Blinds 10/20 6
UTG dingos8 1,471
UTG+1 XouTouMou 811
CO tslugAA 1,461
D saliba522 2,259
SB Hero 1,507
BB minpops 1,491[/divbox]

Preflop
6 48 Hero is SB J J
dingos8 raises to 80, 3 folds, Hero raises to 260, 1 fold, dingos8 calls 180
Flop
2 558 4 Q 7
Hero checks, dingos8 bets 360, Hero calls 360

Turn
1,278 2
Hero checks, dingos8 goes all-in 848

I probably bet the flop, you are oop, if called you can reevaluate things.

When you call flop you put 620 of your 1507 stack in the pot, ~40% of your stack, that turn card don´t change much, I probably call turn as played.

If you bet flop are you able to check fold on that turn card? I think if the turn gets checked through are you ahead but is that the only action we are hoping for? Or do we think villain is able to float flop and lead turn?

I think V will call flop with Qx and flush draw, maybe 88,99 and TT.

Hero should cbet flop about 50% pot, if called check turn, and I think I would fold for a bet turn, there is some river cards that are bad, and hero will have too much invested on the pot already.

this being a SNG I am not sure i 3bet JJ there too, if V 4bet shove a flip is not good, I don´t remember much about 6 max SNG tow.

thanks for insight guys.

i was leaning towards a c-bet on flop, i think thats my mistake. the 3-bet preflop couldve been avoided too.

anyways, i ended up calling the shove and villain had QJ and took down the pot.

KingDayekh,

Why do you think you should have bet the flop? Also, what do you mean by “the 3-bet preflop could’ve been avoided”. Are you thinking that was a mistake? Why?

So villain raised 4x UTG, then you 3-bet giving him just over 2 to 1 to make the call in position (3-bet is probably too small?). Once he calls it is now pretty awkward to play out of position, I guess this is why you did not c-bet but when you check call it’s like praying for a miracle, that somehow you can still win without knowing where you stand, hoping for a check down.

I think I would just call pre and play a smaller pot, especially without knowing what the 4x means yet.
