Final 33 of the Triceratops. I had just made two profitable open shoves in a row (A7s M6.5 from HJ, and KQo M7 from MP2). I pickup 44 on the next hand and its obviously not a shove, I usually fold here, but i thought it would look very strong if i minraise after my previous action, with the image I have.
On the flop, I thought about my range which consists of mostly premiums, which i would be checking behind on a flop this dry most of the time.
When he bet the turn, to continue repping a premium range, I make a small re-raise. I thought he would be bluffing a significant amount of the time here and would just fold.
On the river I felt like I just had to shove because if he ever had a draw on the turn he is going to fold here for sure. Maybe he folds a Q that floated just to see if I was serious.
He was running 14/3/3.2

“my range which consists of mostly premiums, which i would be checking behind on a flop this dry most of the time. “
Think about why this is. Betting should definitely be the vacuum play, so if you’re choosing to check behind, presumably it’s because you expect your opponent to fold very often. In other words, you’re making an exploitive check, so why not make some exploitive bluffs too? Do you really think V is going to say “he’d check KK here so since he’s betting he must have a weak hand therefore I can check-raise him with my T9s”? What exactly are you afraid will go wrong if you bet flop?
That said, I like the turn/river play.

Honestly, I didn’t think anything would go wrong, game flow wise I felt like i would get more respect with a delayed CB.
A lot of the time in game, I imaging myself having the hand I am trying to rep, and I try to make the identical play, with the identical timing. It was very, for lack of a better term, impulsive, the way i played the hand. My decision to open was based on game flow, and my actions were swift and decisive. I open min-raised quite fast, as did i check behind on the flop, as well as raising the turn bet, which is how I play my AA here VS certain tables/villains pre and post flop. Obviously depending on villain stats, or table tendencies my play varies, but in this situation I felt this action post flop would get me the most respect.

When I say go wrong, I mean what hands do you think will fold the turn but not the flop? This is the thing I’m encouraging you to think more deeply about it, instead of just playing on feel until something unexpected happens and then having no idea what to do next. When you say “more respect”, translate that into specific behaviors with specific hands. I call this having a target for a bluff, in my bluffing series (though on the flop you aren’t even really bluffing, even though you’d prefer a fold to a call – you are mostly betting to lock up your equity with a hand that is probably ahead but isn’t going to play well on future streets.)
