Having coming from cash and being newish to the tourney environment, over the last month it strikes me that some tournies are much much better value than others.

For instance whats the point in playing turbos when we see half the amount of cards that occur in better blind structured tournies? Surely to inflict an edge you need to see as many cards as possible. In cash this was great obv, but it doesnt seem so in these games.

Are you looking for a strict payout criteria to fill such as first place being 20x the BI?

It's possible i'm just being naive, and it just comes down to preference, or maybe even just filling up a quota of tables to play. In any case I'd love to here how you guys go about picking and choosing.

Many MTT specialists are not particularly great at post-flop play. Their edge comes primarily from playing short-stack pre-flop situations better than their opponents. Turbos rush along to that stage of the tournament. Although you're right that the theoretical edge even for an MTT specialist is lower, his hourly rate may well be higher because the tournament finishes so quickly. You can always see more hands by playing more tournaments. Turbos enable these players to play more hands at the stage of the tournament where they are most comfortable, without waiting through the part where they play less well.
