Some tournament pros swear by them, some don't use them. It seems in bigdogs videos there are never any huds running. Alot of the other pros videos I have watched have been through a replayer and I haven't seen any there. I was just wondering what the pros and members stances are on using huds for mtt play?
*Personally I used to use one but then found I was getting lazy in paying attention and just relying on the stats. I actually felt that my observation skills decreased with the hud and my play worsened. I do only play 4-5 tournaments at a time so I feel I can play pretty well without the hud, but I am not sure how I would feel with say 10 or 12 tables going.
*Sometimes I would think it would be nice to have just a VPIP and PFR on the screen so I could know if I should fold or shove to the guy that just limped utg.
If used properly and not over dependant on them, they can be great. A simple stat such as how many hands they're playing can make you more aware and sway a decision. If you play anymore than 4 tables, it's hard to really go off of reads and such, esp if everyone is unknowns to you. Many times sticky situations might come up where having a HUD is really helpful in that spot. I suggest using a HUD as long as you don't let the stats take over your game.
Great tool for multi-tablers imo. Knowing how many hands they play, and how often they raise pre-flop can be very valuable.
So for example, if you're playing 6 tournies without a hud you probably noticed the one guy at one of your tables that has played almost 50% of the hands he has been dealt. You probably labeled him aggro and dealt with him as such. So now you're in the BB and he is the cutoff and just raised you – you're holding ATsuited. With no hud you probably jam here – but if you have a hud you can take a look that while he has played 52% of the last 84 hands dealt to him, he has only raised twice pre-flop – this is a clear and easy fold thanks to that information.
I think it's -EV to play without a HUD unless you only play 1 or 2 tables. As soon as you play 3 or more tables, you can't remember how loose or tight some players are.
And it's not like you use every stat a HUD offers you .. that's maybe important in a cashgame where you have 1000 hands on villain and play multiple streets. In tournaments you basically only wanna know VPIP, PFR and 3bet. With that information you can assing villain a reasonable range and act accordingly…
