Hey fellow TPE’ers

I am getting in a live Tournament tomorrow it’s a $150 Buy in, $75K GTD + first place also gets a seat in the Main Event at the SHPRO on the 24th of Aug.

It’s at the Seminole Hard Rock and it pays 5% of the field. There are 6 day 1’s, in which I’m playing in day 1E at 11am in the morning. Day 1 E is at 6pm that night.

I am already playing in 3 of the SHPRO tournaments. I have saved to play in 3 tournaments in the SHPRO, and 3 WSOP tournaments at the West Palm Beach Kennel Club early next year I have made a goal to some how Play in the Main event and this is the cheapest alley for me. The other alternative is placing deep enough in one, or all three of the 3 events I do play to get into the main event at each series of events.

I placed in one of the three tournaments at each series last year and hope to place in more this year. Each one I placed in was the first I played, event one each time. Read the velocification article and realized that’s why I had prob. and didn’t place in the other tournaments, also realized what the prob. was and that my tactics to getting past the Velocification problem wasn’t working, even after 3 to 5 days passing.

Anybody got any ideas to get past this problem?

I don’t have that much experience in this area, so this is a big FWIW, but… I find playing a live cash session really resets my feel for the value of chips in my next tournament.

Don’t know why but that made me laugh. Thank you for that. I usually don’t play cash before a tournament as I don’t want it to influence my play, for instance if in the cash game if I’m hitting doesn’t mean I will be in the tourney.

Thank you for the reply Movie!

By the way did you derive your user id because you work in the FX industry?

Yes. There was a discovery channel show called Movie Magic that influenced me heavily. Back in 2007 a few guys ran a poker club at work and got me motivated to get my first book and create an account online. I was actually working at the company that was most often featured in the TV show, so it was a bit of a life-circle-thing. I didn’t really think it would be a long term decision and when MovieMagic was taken I just took MovieFX. I don’t love it but whatareyagonnado?

Sorry about the off topic in the Strat section

very cool Movie! Love that stuff! smileI have a license to Maya 6, lightwave 7.5, and Adobe Production suite cs6. Never worked professionally but love to dabble. Wrote a short and have been working on it for a few years, long way to go though. surprised

Forgive me, but I don’t understand what the actual question is?

Only paying 5% of the field, that’s HORRIBLE.  Just looked it up.  That sucks, but I guess to get 1st the 5k seat and enough money, they didn’t pay 10% of field like almost everyone does.

P-aire,

SHR does a cheap buy in at the $150 for 2 day tournament with 6 day ones and so instead of paying 10% they only pay 5% of field, making the pay out larger for those that do place.

I know the concept…… they got it from Savage from LA.  Harrahs Philly had a TD that came from out west a year ago that started doing that kind of concept.

The 100k’s here were $150 with 12 day 1’s……… Every night they play down to 10% of the field that was there THAT day.  ex/  120 players that day, 12 MADE THE MONEY.  200 players show up, 20 make the money and move to DAY 2 where everyone gets a mini cash.  I was lucky enough to take 3rd for 16k.  1st was a 10k seat to 2016 WSOP Main and 35k in cash…..  They paid 10% of that field.  paying only 5% is “F”ed up in any tourney.

Glgl in any you play

Movie,

No I meant Maya 6. I purchased a while back, okay, a long while back, and got a good price. Can’t afford to spend the 4K for the 2016 version and don’t use it enough to use it on the yearly “rental” basis.

I had a gentleman I was in touch with at Autodesk that had been there when it was owned by Alias, and before they stopped honoring the older versions, he was generating my keys for me. Bob was a good person to work with, Wanted to get to version 8.5 so I could use Python (which made Maya even more powerful) but he no longer works there as far as I know, and I lost his personal #. Don’t think they have anybody that knows how to generate an authentic key for older versions any more.

I believe Maya 6 is the same version they made “The Last Airbender” with, and that was some pretty good fx, to me any way.

Also a weird thing about Maya or any Autodesk software is that in the EULA it clearly states that it can be only put on one computer, here comes the weird part, and can’t be moved more than 5 Km from original installation site. Or that’s what it said on the EULA for Maya 5 and 6 any way. Guess ILM, and Pixar is huge!

P-aire,

Glgl in any you play? sorry my lingo is coming up short!

If your asking me if I got in the money in any of the tournaments I play, yes, but not in the above one or ones like it.

I place 18th in a WSOP event last Feb at the Palm Beach Kennel Club

and also in a SHRPO tournament last year, Only played in 6 tournaments of this caliber and fewer in smaller tournaments.

Will play in six again this year, 3 in both the SHRPO in August and the next  WSOP at the Kennel Club. Hope to place deep enough to play in main event at either or both. Time will tell, and the reason I joined this site.

Cheers,

I wish you luck as well.  I just didn’t understand what your question was about the tourneys.  You titled this thread “Tournament advice after placing”   I just didn’t understand what you were asking us.

Congrats on going deep and cashing.  Always sad when you get in the “teens” and don’t make a Final table.  Just keep playing and it will happen.

Thank you P-Aire, I’m like the terminator, I won’t stop, I’ll never quit looking for the final table, and I can’t complete my mission till I kill it.

er….something like that!
