Hey sharks among men,
While progressing and learning much from the videos and advice on forums here, I've noticed that with new good habits come new bad habits – ways while learning we overstep and sometimes completely step off cliffs, into mouths with teeth.
I wonder if I am jamming too much preflop in these spots in an effort to increase aggression and maintain higher M. Here are two spots.
1)
First hand was two days ago I believe a 5$ turbo knockout. We are at around midgame but things will start heating up soon. The villain, ARMYMIRET, after just 28 hands played 43/28/0, stealing 25, had just nicely ninjaed himself back from 960 chips about ten hands ago. Four hands ago, at 150/300, he had 2700 in chips in the BB, as did the low stacked SB, who tried to min open steal BSB, and ARMYMIRET decided to flat defend his BB with 9T. Flop was XX9, the BB shoved with KJ and ARMY easy called to double up and take out the SB player. Then this:

sandyhookKYguy (CO): BB = 7.8, t3136
MMAjunkieX (BTN): BB = 11.3, t4510
latoya22 (SB): BB = 3.6, t1457
Hero (BB): BB = 11.4, t4541
gunnernme (UTG): BB = 6.6, t2623
sf49ers831 (UTG+1): BB = 10.1, t4040
ARMYMIRET (MP): BB = 9.3, t3733
Pre Flop: (t880) Hero is BB with 6 Q
2 folds, ARMYMIRET calls t400, 2 folds, latoya22 calls t200, action on Hero
I decided that I hadn't made a move in long enough, and wanted to be aggressive. Maybe I ranged him improperly .. but not really because it's not like I didn't believe he could be limping to induce. But I thought enough of the time he was going to be limping somthing he could fold while he gets the feel for the table with a reasonable stack. In any case I wanted to pick up some chips.
Hero raises to t4501 all in, ARMYMIRET calls t3293 all in
Is it ok to do this? Did I do this too early in the MTT?
2)
Second hand was in a 2$ rebuy turbo MTT, this time about halfway between the addon period and the bubble. The villain is NRewolf, after 27 hands playing 22/16/12.5, steal 33, fold to steal 50, resteal 0 but I know the sample is small.

HoldemTrucker (UTG+1): BB = 73.0, t36508
Pre Flop: (t1100) Hero is SB with 8 J
5 folds, action on Hero.
I decided to steal his blinds. I'm ok going that far, right? I think so, but then I probably did it too mindlessly.
Hero raises to t8400 all in, NRewolf3 calls t7900
Should I have bet something like 2.5x or 3x if I decide to steal? I wonder if I was too large to shove? I know I wasn't large at all. But too large nonetheless for this? If I bet 2.5x, I could fold to a reshove and if he calls I have 15BB to work with.
With this stack is a shove too spewy?
Thank you very kindly for your inputs.

The first hand is pretty bad, there's not really much likelihood he's going to be limp-folding on that stack size in MP and the small blind is probably not going to fold many Qx or Kx hands that dominate you either, so you don't have much fold equity or general equity. Shoving to pick up limped pots is good but there's no need at all to do it when you a) have Q6o and b) can take a flop for free by checking.
The second hand is unnecessary – you still have enough big blinds to have a raise/folding range if you want, and J8o for 17bb is probably not profitable. For 14bb it would probably be fine. I recommend moving away from phrases like “I decided to steal his blinds” – it makes it sound like a spontaneous decision, and spontaneous decisions are what leads to punting your stack. If you're going to steal his blinds, you need to know what kind of range you'd be doing it with and why. Not to mention the whole idea of 'stealing blinds' is a little outdated anyway. It's really the antes you want to steal since pre-ante playing tight is very much correct, so try to move away from the idea that the blinds are 'his', 'yours', or anyone else's.

Thank you ginger. I will reflect on the idea of playing for antes and not anyone's blinds.
First hand, yeah, I will definitely take the flop next time.
Second hand, it wasn't completely spontaneous to try to steal, but you're right I should probably have a clearer idea of what my range is here for bet/folding and bet/calling. I'm assuming there are times to shove 17BB in BVB but probably not too often and probably with additional reasons like gameflow and opponent playing styles. I can see that I am being click happy.
You're also right about spontaneous decisions leading to punting stacks, and I do that plenty.

Hand 1: not a bad spot to shove but I prefer to have something with a bit more equity v a monster something like 56s or 78s that way if he decides to call you with QJs or KQ he’s not blocking your outs. These hands can also be good v something like AA. You also need to consider the stack sizes, not sure what’s going on at the other tables but even though you have around ten bbs your in fairly good shape relative to the other players at your table at could probably find a better spot. That being said I still like the attack on dead money your hearts in the right place.
Hand 2: I don’t like it. I think a min raise looks stronger and we can fold to a shove. BvB people are going to be calling u a lot lighter than usual and you definitely don’t need to risk your tournament here with these cards. Min raise or walk him depending on his tendencies.
