Villain has just joined our table after the tournament became 20 handed, we have no history.

With the size of his 3bet I'm thinking AA,KK,AK maaaybe JJ,TT. The play in general in this tournament has been fairly passive, most people are just playing their cards. Is this an ok fold or am I just being a NIT.

Flatting OOP is gonna make this hand pretty tough to play. I like a 4b call. If he flats i’m CBing any flop. You’d still leave yourself over 20bbs after CB.

Imo you have to 4 bet shove in that spot.  You could 4 bet to 12-15K, but that would commit you anyway, so it is better to shove.  There's no evidence that your Villian has KK or AA specifically merely because he 3 bets.  As you stated, even if he is a NIT his 3 bet range includes JJ, KK, AA, and AK.  Although your are behind this range as a whole, there are hands in his range that you are ahead of.  Also, keep in mind that even the tighest player sometimes gets out of line after the money bubble is burst and will try to build a big stack by 3 betting light.  If you 4 bet shove you mostly get worse to fold and better to call, so I can see your reluctance to do it.  However, you win the 9K in the middle a substantial portion of the time when he folds.  If he does call with KK or AA, that's a cooler, and you still have outs.  Folding is not an option.  Calling simply makes the decision more difficult post flop.  As played, your opponent will cbet any flop, so there's a good chance that took this one away from you.

yeah i played like a girl, shoulda 4bet

I guess i just felt like I had a decent stack and was a better player than everyone else, with the passive play at the table I felt like I could wait for a better spot. If this hand was on stars I woulda got it in players a lot more passive @ party.

Against unknown opponent, in low buy-in tournament I would be stacking off with QQ's.

I would play this way, only when I have some information about opponents game.

I think I like a 4b shove line here as well. If we 4bet from this position to try to induce a 5b shove then a) we might get flatted and b) it looks very strong so by jamming here we might get calls from hands like TT, JJ, AK, AQ and we are only ever in trouble against AA / KK which of course could be in his range but sometimes you have no choice but to take some risks.

This was doign the “soft” launch.  Play was extremely bad at times.  I was playing a bunch on WSOP & party.  I'm shipping this pre all day.
