Hello TPE, new member and first post. Love the site. I am a part time player and am putting a lot of time into the study of the game. Started using PT4 about 4 months ago. Still learning how to maximize the resources, but overall feel my game has improved with its use. My ROI however would disagree, small sample (500 mtt’s). I assumed that all the pros used this and similar software. After watching a number of the videos from this site I see that many pros do not use software. Poker is a game of incomplete information. To me, it seems that software helps fill in some of that information. My question to the pros, why do you or why don’t you use software?

How about this one.  Thinking of getting coaching.  I use a Hud. Which TPE pros do coaching with a good understanding on using a Hud?

Hey, Welcome to TPE.

Obviously i cant speak for the pro's as such but id imagine most of them use tracking software even if they don't use the HUD feature of the software.

I've not got round to really exploring holdem manager yet but i think the stats maybe more appropriate to cash game play rather than MTT's simply because the dynamics of the two games are so different.
For e.g. the vpip / pfr / 3bet% stats may become skewed in tournie play because of the ante's, blind levels or bubble etc

Lets say you've 50 hands on an opponent from the early stages of a previous tournament, yet you meet this guy at the final table of  a different tournie. If his stats are 14/12 with a 3% 3bet how accurate do you think those would be?

Heres something else to consider, now im not sure which recording software all the pro's use but i know camtasia and most other recording software offer the option to record layers. Basically if the pro's leave this option unchecked, even if they're using a HUD, it will show on their screen but the software won't record it so you wont see it on the videos.

Hope this helped you somewhat.

HUDs are essential if you're playing a lot of tables. If you're not using one, you're at a disadvantage against people who are.

Natsel,

A HUD is definitely on my to-do list. The fact that really brought it home for me is that I’m currently playing in a TPE tourney cycle against other members who use HUDs, and I’m noticing more and more that they are able to pre-empt what I am going to do in certain situations because they know my tendencies.

The fact that they have information on me, and I have none on them makes it super difficult to play against them.

This game is about small edges, and the more info you have before making a decision, the more chance it will be correct.
