Sup Tpe folk. So I decided to make a New Years resolution to put some real study into poker. I’m a recreational player but have very little knowledge on how to actually study. Apart from looking back at hands on hm2 I struggle. Can anyone recommend some videos or just advice on how to and where to start a for solid study plan. Thanks.
I think you might find this series from Andrew Brokos and this series from Daryl Jace interesting.
A couple of other suggestions, based on how I like to study…
(1) Make sure you are marking hands for review in HM2 as you play them.
(2) Find a friend who you can review hands with, and make sure it is someone that won’t just tell you what you want to hear!
(3) Try to work your way in to a Skype study group. Here you will find a lot of people interested in doing group HH reviews so you will get a ton of different prespectives.
(4) Post “trouble hands” in the forums for feedback.
(5) If you want to get really deep, familiarize yourself with programs like PIOSolver to really start taking a deep dive in to hands.
I’m sure others will have some suggestions, but that should be a good start!

I am interested in joining a skype study group. Are there any skype groups that are active? I was a recreational poker and I started taking poker seriously last year. Maybe we can study together Bigdduble1. I would recommend most of Andrew Brokos’ videos highly. His videos are very good for laying a foundation and he is talented at explaining concepts simply. I would start with his hand reading series. He also does custom video reviews where he reviews your database or a tournament and identifies your leaks. I have used his services and I have found the coaching sessions excellent and worth the money.

Best thing you can do for yourself as a learner is take a learning style test and find out what kind of learner you are.
There are four major styles – Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic. Knowing which ones work best for you is the most important part of developing a poker study plan for yourself that actually works.

Guess I have the hardest learning style for poker then haha. I took the test and it turns out I have a kinaesthetic learning style. Seems kinda hard to apply that with poker.

Actually, not really. Even just clicking certain buttons on a computer is kinaesthetic learning after a fashion. Running solver calculations where you have to input specific variables yourself, physically writing things down, or even just learning through experience by playing the game is a form of kinaesthetic learning in some regard.
Any instance where you have to physically move, even a little bit, in order to faciliate learning is at least partially kinaesthetic. Sitting and watching a video? No kinaesthesis. Reading a book? Maybe a tiny bit of kinaesthesis. Physically clicking on hands in order to put them into a solver calculation? Definite kinaesthesis.
