what sort of hours to you play per week? what is your daily routine and how does it change for the big ones on a sunday? how many days off do you give yourself in a week?
-) How many tables do you play on average / at rush hour? I used to 9-12 table .. sometimes up to 15. But I timed out a lot, folded KK+, was sitting out for an hour without noticing it, punted my stack because I misread the board etc., so I cut it back to 6. Now I have time to make decisions, take notes and also make reads. But it seems like all the serious MTT regs are 10-20 tabling because variance can be insane when playing only 6 tables or so.
-) Have you ever considered / played cashgames and what's your take on them?
-) Do you play mixed games? If no, do you plan on playing them? If yes, what do you think about multitabling them? I really like mixed games, but I hardly ever play them since I can't play more than 1 or 2 MTTs at once. In HORSE I always get mixed up with which game is currently on .. and I also can't remember door cards when playing more then 2 tables.
-) Do you think that higher MTTs ($50+, $20r+) will be profitable forever or that they will dry out sooner or later?
-) 1st hand of the tournament. It folds to the SB, he shoves and shows you AK .. you have 22 (or vice versa). Do you call or fold? Why? Is there a cutoff point (blind level, stack sizes,..) where you are willing to take a flip and not “wait for a better spot”?

I don't play many hours per week at all, anymore. Back in the day, I did 50 hours easily, but over the past two years or so I've limited myself to two times a week, three at most. I found that limiting the amount of tables I play keeps me happy and in love with the game.
On Sundays – I start at around one and end at registering at 7pm est, at the latest. Usually, the tables get to be too many, and I stop registering by around 5pm est. I make sure I am well rested for those days, and genearlly sleep later. I also time my meals later in case I have a deep run. I usually don't have dinner til 9pm.

On a typical play day, I usually register everything on UB/Stars/FTP until 9pm. At most, I'll have around ~15 tables, but I notice I start to make poor decisions once it gets to six or more. There is definitely tons of variance in MTTs, so I usually see myself getting deep in three of them, at most.
-I do play a lot of cash. If I don't have any coaching or anything to do around TPE, I'll usually play 2/5 or 5/10 live if I can find them. I truly enjoy doing them, and it feels like a good way to mix things up from the grind that is MTTs. I don't play cash online because I think that a 1/2 game online is much tougher than a 5/10 game live.
-I love HORSE. I actually have a 10th, 12th, and 18th in the FTOPS 500 HORSE. Mixed games are again, a great way to not feel the drain of online NL MTTs. When I am playing games like this, I make sure my tables are limited so I can focus on stuff like down cards. It's super important to remember what cards are down or up, because your direct outs are right in front of you. when playing online, I'll say outloud what cards are dead so I remember. I also make sure the mixed game is the one thing I focus on while playing. I also make sure I'm only playing one at a time. You can keep track of the game on FTP very easily because the game is listed for you on the table.
-MTTs will be profitable for a very long time. There are enough new players cycling in that you will find edges at the table consistently. Stars has 360k people on it at any given day – and maybe 500 of them are on my level or better when it comes to MTTs.
-is it AKs? If so, it's a favorite over 22 😉 Seriously though, I definitely don't take a 50/50 early on in a tournament. There will be plenty of times when I can get it in much better than that. The only time I'd consider a flip is if it was a super tough tournament with really good players, and I didn't think my edge was that significant. EX: a 100r where the players left are ridiculously good.

How long til you meet you weight loss goal?
Best advice ever given to you regarding poker.
Aha momnets?
My doctor said around ~215 is where i should be. When I first started the goal, I was at 250 pounds, and I'm around 218 now. I don't think 215 is realistic though, as I definitely still have a bit of chub to lose. I'd think 205 would be an ideal weight for me. I ran track very competitively in high school and was around 190 pounds with not an ounce of fat on me, so I think 205 would be a “normal” weight for me.
Best advice I've ever been given in poker was to remember that your opponent might not be thinking on the level you are, so you need to adjust accordingly and put their ranges on what you believe an amateur player would have.
Aha moment was when I realized Q7 couldn't make a straight, but Q8 could. Also when I finally figured out the power of position in poker it turned me from an okay player to a good one.

how much of a nit are you, really?
how nervous are you that spending the summer in a house with hagbard celine will turn you gay?
more questions to come
I'm definitely a massive nit… but I can mix it up. I'm going to re-record that 10 dollar I final tabled and you will see my lack of nittiness. I definitely think that in the current poker mindset, being ABC is the best way to go. Everyone is just so aggressive that I find I'm able to wait for a hand and pounce. I definitely still push/fold profitably, but I think there is definitely something to be said for just letting the aggressive players make the mistakes.
-girlfriend is bringing friends, so you better turn your gay off.

Wein what do you feel about odd ball betting let's say the pot 1200 and you make a bet of 781 with a semi-bluff? I have been trying this strategy with some success, but not enough data to know if it is luck or making people nervous. Just wondering if you tried this at all or your thoughts.

Please tell more about these friends, I was planning on coming to Vegas for at least a day to sweat and drink with you guys. I have a soft spot for additional girls as well.

I think the bigger numbers might look intimidating to some players, so it might get a higher fold frequency. 799 on FTP looks very big compared to 800 on FTP.
Is there any one player that helped you become a great player? and who?
How many events will you be playing this wsop? and which ones are you most looking forward to?
Whats one bit of advice you'd give to a player that works really hard on their game and hopes to play poker for a living one day?
What stats would you reccomend ppl add to their HUD that they probly arent utilizing?
Once at the FT of the sunday million, did you just take your pants off or was it full on nudity?socks?

-I'm not sure if I can pinpoint one specific player. If I had to, I'd probably say GB2005. He invited me to every dinner at the WSOP when I didn't have anything in 2007, and let me sit at the same table with sickos who brought my game to another level. I was just a reporter, but he really treated me well.
-A lot of events this WSOP. Will be out there for the duration. I think there's a 10k HORSE that I'll play, so I'd be most looking forward to that.
– Don't play for a living. It's far too difficult and stressful. You want consistant income and it's hard to get that in poker.
-Not much of a HUD guy. I just use the standard PFR crap
-Which sunday million final table? 😉
How do you recover from a downswing or motivate yourself to put in the hours again. I'm on a 100 MTT downswing and seem to get crushed by insane beats over and over again. I find myself listening to a dozen podcasts, watching training videos, reading forums etc. .. everything BUT playing because I'm too afraid of losing again…

-fights…drunks….full frontal nudity….robberies….farm animals..etc..etc.
I was a reporter for the world series in 2007 and watched Eskimo Clark have some mild heart attack or whatever twice. We had to leave the tournament room while they gave him medical attention. I think he actuallyc ame back from the hospital to play in one of the instances.
Also some guy that just hit the money in 2007 took a beat and threw the table – chips went everywhere. They had to go to the cameras and reconstruct the table.

To be honest, dealing with downswings has a lot to do with experience. I'm so used to experiencing things over and over again, that it doesn't affect me. I just don't look at my accounts, and play the best I can. You can't change the past or how you've run, so might as well be as positive as possible for a new day.

Dear Wein,
I am a small stakes / micro stakes MTT player as you may know. I know that ABC poker works best at these levels and recently I have been doing just that with some decent results (even got a WIN in an MTT recently and a few win's in the FTP 3.30 90 man KO's and 5.50 45 man SNGs) but I still have issues late in an MTTs with “freezing up” and i'm not able to think straight when the pressure is on (last few tables of an MTT getting down to the final table etc..)
I find myself nervous, anxious and this interrupts my though processes alot. I also find that im 'afraid' so to speak, to make a big move or big play late in an MTT as I feel like I have invested alot of time and energy into 'making it this far' and I don't want to make a big mistake late and blow my shot at a FT and decent money.
How do you handle/get over/get in the correct mind set/ late in an MTT where you just toss 'fear' out the window?
Here is an example.
Lets say we are down to the last 2 tables in an MTT and there is a guy to my right who is OBV opening alot of pots and being very aggressive, his VPIP/PFR are very high also..he has a big stack, on the button and hes raising applying pressure to everyone..I know he's doing all this, I know hes probably raising 'light' alot of the time but I just can't find a way to pull the trigger and 3-bet him as often as I should (unless I pick up a good hand)
I used to just SHOVE, even over 20bb's, when I though someone was stealing because I was afraid of him flatting my 3-bet and having to play post flop. Again, that 'fear' aspect comes into play and I find that if I don't smash a flop I'm probably folding a lot more then I should. Please help get my mind right.
P.S – I am playing the 1, 2 and 3 dollar MTT's as that is what my bankroll allows me to play atm so playing 'over my buy in' is not the issue.
On average if you had to guess ;How many times do you yawn per strat vid?

Is Tournament Poker your main source of income?
Rough estimate what percentage of your income is from MTTs?
How many sources of income do you have?
Do you have a written strategy? Like your general mindset based on the situation at Hand during the game? example: on big dogs vids he commonly refers to BigDog Mode…. do we have a Wein mode.. and i would assume Wein-er mode is when we are nitty early in the MTT? “joke here”
Thanks

Who has had the biggest impact on your game in terms of giving you advice, tips, guidance, etc?
Favorite online tournaments are the 100r and the Sunday Million or FTP 750k. The 100r because it is the top players and it's fun to think on very high levels, and the Sunday Million and FTP 750k because it requires you to adjust to all types of players.
I'm not really much of a live guy – but I really enjoy playing at Harrah's Chester. It is 20 minutes from me and the cash games are really soft from the 20 times or so I've been there.
Biggest impact on my game was probably blackfours. He went from being one of my students to being one of my peers and possibly one of my superiors. He thinks about the game a ton and really helps me. Cougars, bigdog, gb2005, chicagocards have also played a huge part of my game. Witcher, bax, sheets, thorladen, kush patel, etc as well.

I know you talk a lot about getting into poker young and the effect it had on you. What advice would you give a serious player who is still in college about balance?
What about leaving college and looking at a job market that doesn't offer anything that pays better than grinding?
What markup are you charging on your WSOP shares?
-Make sure you go out twice a week. You don't have to be an animal and you can definitely still get your poker in, but just don't be that guy who is staying in on a saturday night because they are playing. I don't think you need to be getting smashed, but go see a movie or relax. While poker is enjoyable, it's really damn stressful.
-Tough it out. If you've started school, take the year or two to finish so you have something to fall back on. I know that when times are tough, the fact that i have something I really enjoy to go to has kept me level handed.
-No idea on WSOP mark-up or if i will sell anything. I'll make sure it's reasonable tho if i do!

What would your 3 bet range be in mtt's $20 and under?
-Andres has definitely become a good player. I give him props.
-ABC TAG is successful at all levels. I just think your ranges have to be different based on the level of your play.
-Tight in 20s and unders early and mid stages, very loose in late stages when people want to get to the final table.

-Hugs will happen.

It really does come down to experience. When you know something is the right play, you need to do it. Once you get in that situation enough, you'll be comfortable taking profitable spots even if it puts your whole stack at risk. That doesn't mean that you should make -EV shoves. There are certainly times when poker dictates that you should wait for pay increases for making moves, but you can't play scared. You'll just be burning money long term. All the money is in the final 3.

If you were to give 3 tips for beating Micro Stakes / Small Stakes MTT's what would they be?
1. ABC poker is the way to go at these levels
2. ?
3. ?
1. Remember that there's tons of variance.
2. Remember that the players at low limits are not going to have proper ranges and you have to adjust based on that.
3. Treat every tournament like they are a $10,000 tournament.
4. Don't play too many tables.

1. I don't watch most of the videos, so my opinion would be super irrelevant when it comes to MTT pros.
1a – Bigdog – crazy
Panda – Chong
RonFez – Entrepeneur
Killingbird – Heater
Cougars – Fatchicksinyellowdresses
Ttwist – Canada
2. Top three best online players – gboro, apestyles, jamers
3. METs are fun, but definitely will kill the image of MTTs. If the regs can play every tourament 6x, donks with a dream will go away.
4. Obv me when it comes to best bang for your buck 😉 to be honest never paid for any coaches, so not sure. I think GB2005 coaches and at any rate he's going to be amazingly helpful.
5a. Have a year of expenses behind you
5b. Hands have no memories. Just because you've lost for a day week or month does not mean that you're entitled to have your KK hold vs AK the next.
5c. Don't play if you're not 100% into it. If you're ever not playing your best, it's best not to play.

We haven't made much off of TPE yet, to be honest. We have tons of new stuff in the future that most of our funds are going towards right now. In the future, I'd love it to be my main source of income.
70% from MTTs?
5 sources of income.
No written strategy. I try to play as solid as possible and try to just make the right moves.
