hey

no reads

i decided to shove flop to lock up the equity we have in the pot but at the same time i just don’t think we are getting called by worse , we do have outs though.

thoughts please?

cheers.

I think you said the answer – anything worse calling you here?  Only thing I see calling after defending would be a T.  With no reads there are a ton of tens in his range.  To that you only have a K or runners for outs.  I’m making a standard cbet here, usually taking it down right there, sometimes getting called by worse or maybe even a J that you can get him off with a barrel on the turn. You also have backdoor flush draws or the K to when he has the T and decides to flat call.  I’m probably folding to a raise depending on sizing.

If you’re going to overshove the flop you might as well shove pre. Post-flop play is hard. I certainly can’t do it. But an aware villain that sees you c-betting the flop should infer strength from it. If you get check-raised, then you still have a stack left, but otherwise you only get called by better when you shove because the board is so scary.

I just don’t really know what you’re trying to achieve here. Versus a BB defending range you’re probably way ahead right now, plus you have two overs, a gutshot, and a backdoor flush draw. You’re doing well versus villain’s range.

However, you’re doing pretty terribly versus villain’s range for calling your shove, so what you’re in fact doing isn’t “locking up your equity” at all – it’s ensuring that every time you’re crushed, you get the maximum number of chips in, and every time you’re ahead, you get your opponent to fold, making your equity meaningless.

I don’t mind betting a standard sizing here if you think villain will call wide or make bad decisions on future streets, but I think my preferred play is to check here. There are virtually no scary turn cards so since we can call a bet on any turn, checking back the flop is actually your best option in terms of realizing your equity here.

“Lock up your equity” just kind of sounds like “win the hand right now” or “take the pot down right here” – it’s one of those phrases that people say when they’re making a bet but they don’t really know why.

that’s very true ginger and I admit that this is terrible play.

if the flop was AT2r would you shove? or would you prefer to c-bet with a hand like AQ/22/AT/TT/AA on that flop with the spr being low?
