hey hey

reads – V has been calling raises pre like nearly always. I played two pots with V , first hand hero c-bets flop V calls, turn hero checks v bets hero folds and as for the 2ed pot hero c-bets flop V fold.

when v calls flop their range i’d say would be Tx 9x 5x and over cards like KJ.

thoughts on betting turn to represent a straight? i’m not to sure how wide my bluffing range should be on the turn. The reason why i c-bet flop was because i was prepared to barrel most turns with a spade or if the turn was a 3 or 2 and K/Q i’d barrel too.   If i were in position and v checked , i think it may be better to represent the straight? since v would of probably bet those OTT to get value from hero’s marginal hands but we are OOP in this hand , so it’s difficult to say if the turn has improved v range since we don’t know what their action is going to be, basically we have less information on the range of hands they could have since we are OOP. Never the less i reckon since they are calling pretty wide pre , they are likely going to have a wide flop calling range.

when v checks back turn i discounted monsters from their range , their range will be marginal or maybe even air so when we get to the river i went for a modest bluff , a bet of 1/3 pot only needs to succeed 25% of the time to break even. as for my bluff target it includes 5x, Jx , not sure if they are folding weak Tx hands..probably not.

so yeah just wondering if you thought i played this hand well and if my analysis is okay?

cheers.cool

I think continuing to bluff after the flop is a mistake. I like your thought of firing a second bullet when a spade comes, but other then that I would tend to just give up – Although Js, Qs, Ks are all scare cards on the turn, I think it hits the villain’s flop calling range to hard and we should just give up.

When the villain checks the turn I think his hands are weighted towards single pair hands with straight draws – JT, J9, J8, QT, Q9 etc. which I don’t expect him to fold on the river too often. It doesn’t have to work too often as you mentioned, but I’d prefer to bluff with hands that have straight blockers – KJ, AJ, AQ, KQ, etc and if we choose to bluff all our weak aces I think our bluffing range is too unbalanced compared to value range.

I don’t even like the flop bet. The backdoor spades don’t count for much with shallow stacks/on this board, you’re pretty much just making a ATC bet with no reason given as to why that would be profitable.
