Originally checked turn for pot control, thinking he would nt bet so large on turn, on certainly not that large on river. But my turn check call made it look like I dodnt have an A, and he was trying to push me off hand. I seem to pick up chips well at beginning of tourneys picking off bluffs like this.
You calling?

Would def like to see another bet on the turn to get more value from a fd or rag aces and to keep control over the pot. If villain has A10 he'll prolly raise you on the turn and you can make the caustious fold. He could also have called you w 1010 and turned a set trying to get max value from a strong ace. He could also have AQ and doesnt put you on AK since you checked the turn. You still have 90bb if you fold and there's no need to risk all those chips just trying to catch a bluff.
AJo utg that early in the tourney – i fold pre
in your case i would have definetly folded the river , its hard to put a range on people early in tournaments, often they play any 2. he could have easily have u beat with 2 pair. you are right sometimes the big riverbet is a bluff but there will come better/safer spots to make chips.
My thoughts on this hand;
First up, I dont think I should be opening AJ from UTG at this stage of the tourney, its just so likely that you end up in a situation just as I did here. I think I realised this during the hand (normally I would fold AJ here) and was ready to release to villains turn and river bets – had they made sense. A decent player with bets thats looked like value would have got me off the hand.
Yes he could be overbetting to get max value, but its so much more likely that he's shoving hoping to get me off whatever mediocre hand he puts me on (possibly the one I have). I first thought the turn bet was way too large for a value bet, then river shove confirmed to me after a little thought – that neither bet was for value.
I would have bet the turn if in position, but wanted to try and control the pot oop – obv not the result I got!
