Hi guys,

I was listening to a hand history from Postflop Poker Podcast where our very own killingbird was a guest and there was this hand that went like this.

HJ opens 3BB, hero is on the button with 40BB and AQs. The discussion was to whether 3-bet or call, with no info on the villain. It was agreed that with likely 2 over cards, you’d want the SPR to be 2 or 3. Since AQs plays very well post flop, it is fine to have SPR of 6 as in this case. If you had a hand like AJo, you’d want to 3 bet and try to get an SPR of 2-3.

Now, I have ABSOLUTELY no idea what they are talking about and why it is better to raise with AJo to keep our stack to be shovable (SPR of 2-3) on the flop. What would you do with AK here? Or with KK?

If you guys are looking for the actual podcast, it is here – …..r-podcast/

Look for the episode with killingbird and forward to ~18 mins to start the hand review. The SPR conclusion they come to is really eating my mind now!

i am too lazzy to listen to that.

i mean its comon sense the lower SPR the less hand strenght you need to stack off.

i could understand the argument if we are having a hand like J9s and are asking if we should 3bet or not given that those type of hands need a high SPR to barrel of if we do not make our hand and to win huge if we do.

but what do i know

Florianm1,

I think I may be talking like an amateur here, but why should we have lower SPR for weaker hands? Is it because if we hit the flop hard, people might stack us off as they didn’t expect a 3-bet with a weak hand? Or is it because if we don’t hit the flop, due to the size of the pot, we will be reluctant to continue to draw and can easily fold?
