Hi everyone,

used to be a member, never really posted too much and ended up cancelling…but i'm back for the time being.

Just busted out of a tournament in 7th. 5$ 1R/1A

my hand history thing is being funky on my mac idk why… but heres the short story…

2 tables left and lose a race for a lot of my stack. AJ vs 88 he hit a set.

make it to the final table however, double once and get my stack up to bout 36k.. then 4k/2k blinds kick in.

bust hand:

i have 78 off one spot right of the button, it is folded to me and i have about 24k remaining at this point…

I shove with about 6bb

big stack in the blinds calls with A9 off.

board misses both, ace high wins

is that completely terrible…should i have waited another hand or two?

Just wondering if i should have been more patient or if its an acceptable shove in that situation.

Thanks!

I think you can fold and wait for something better then 78o… At the very least I’m shoving 109ss +

That’s just me tho

You can shove 50.8% Q62, J85, T87, 97s, 86s, 76s assuming they are calling optimally. I highly doubt that is true in a $5r/a so you can shove wider and still be +cEV. You didn't mention the stack sizes of the other players at the table, but at a FT is best to chop off the barely +cEV shoves with a medium to short stack because there is a chance that other players at the table will conflict and bust, moving you up the pay ladder.

With 6BBs on CO and FT, I like the shove with 78o. Most of times the players call you too tight on FT, so your shove should be +EV. And even vs A9 ur like 35% good. I know it sucks to lose these hands, but it happens. I already had a ton of situations, where i missed to shove such a hand in the LP, and than didnt get any better spot, because Players right to me already opened, before i could.

I learned by my mistakes and would be happy to get it in with 78o. With 6BBs u still have a bit of fold equity.

I think id prefer to openshove 78o, than getting something like KJ-KQ in the MP, and 3bet shove an opener (no foldequity anymore here)

Few days ago i spectated the Final Table of the Big109 on Stars. One Supernova guy openshoved there 78s or 89s with 11BBs from UTG+1 8handed (forgot what it was, but it doesnt matter… 78s and 89s is pretty the same i think)

I think its often an openshove with suited connectors, if ur stack is around 10BBs… with 6BBs and the CO position its correct to jam 78o.
