Player 5 was the original raiser and declined to c-bet.

Dont think I can ever fold river after possibly inducing a spaz with my sizing, but if I'd bet half pot on the river instead, could I ever fold to this river shove? I dont think he would be bluffing a ton there with little perceived FE and I figure he wouldn't check raise for value with worse.

I've decided that this was a good spot for a Brokos “Hero check” instead of a value bet on the river. I've got to remember to do that more often in tournaments.

why would you bet half pot here ? what s your value-target ?  i dont agree at all with the hero check, it's just result oriented imo… here your value target should be all the Ax he checks call with on the flop, so on the river i would bet around 2900ish not just half pot

if he checks shoves it's a clear fold imo AS LONG AS you are sure he is not a fish overvalueing something…

At a half pot bet of 2500 or 2900, you might get calls from hands like 7x, 99, TT, Ax, and some draws. After that sizing, I agree that you can fold to a turn check shove expecting boats or better 8x and maybe a few combo draws, especially early in a tournament to preserve tournament life. This would be the same reasoning for the hero check.

I always convince myself that smaller river bets like 1500 here induce people to shove wider. I could be wrong on that though.

Yeah I wouldn't worry too much about having induced something, especially not if you also size bets with stronger hands the same. I agree with betting bigger on turn. I definitely would not check back river, way too likely V just has Ax.

I said I would fold to a check raise if I’d bet river half pot. I believe the half pot question was about river, not the turn.

That said, I don’t mind a bigger turn bet. I just wonder if there are some hands (7x maybe?) that would call a normal (for me when I’m auto piloting many tables) 50% bet but fold to an unusual 70% bet.

I don’t have very many stronger hands here. This is very near the top of my range, yet a river fold still feels correct. Gross.
