Run into a few spots lately, especially at the local casino in their regular $65 buy in tournament , where it seems that the people playing behind me were very loose and were calling large pre flop raises with hands such as q-10,q-j, small aces ect…….my question is simply when you are card dead and hanging onto a 16-20 bb stack, does what you are going to shove with change because you feel the players behind can call with a wider range…are you willing to let yourself blind down to 10-12 bigs before playing a marginal hand or does the fold equity you have with the 16-20 bb stack warrant shoving or squeezing with a more marginal hand and hoping you don't get called….at what point are any two suited good enough and would you pass shoving a small ace in favor of small connectors , say 4-5,5-6,6-7,7-8,ect……smilecoolwink

If theyre calling light then yeah you have to tighten your dry shoving range. If you don't find a decent hand before say 12bb then i'd look for a spot in late pos when folded to me with any suited connector 78+ any pair any K high any two broadway. i would never shove a really small ace if their capable of calling any ace, unless im opening the BTN or BVB or very short.

I do tend to be very tight with this size stack and always flip over my premium hands that i open-take down to show them im not opening light. This usually maximizes my FE and gives me a better image when i'm forced to shove light. Obviously always just shove your premiums coz if theyre calling anyway theres no need to get tricky with a small stack.

My limited live experience tells me that you should tighten up and blind down to that 12bb range.    These are the type of players that do not understand stack sizes or have a calling range.

If u have loose caller behind u, u need to tighten up a bit ur shoving ranges cuz ur not gonna profit via fold equity and so u need to have a better showndown equity holding to compensate for this…But u dont need to tighten up that much cuz the fact ur villains are calling a lot looser it means they are calling with more trash than normal, i only adivce u do not jam into them that often with the bottom of ur range.
