So yesterday afternoon and last night we were having this conversation in chat and I wanted to see what more folks thought as we couldn't resolve it amongst ourselves. The question we were debating is what hands do we like to look for when we are in push/fold mode (i.e. Ax, Kx, Qx) and do we change our shove range if we are expecting to get called (i.e. do we change our shove range away from the previous hands in favor of T9s, 89s type hands if we perceive our fold equity is gone and we are going to be called so that we have a higher probability of two live cards)?

The way I look at it is whenever we open shove we want to get all folds unless we're jamming with a premium.

So when we were talking about this we were saying that if you get called you probably prefer to be holding a hand like J9s, 79s, JTs, etc.

But in general I felt like you still want to be shoving a hand like A9s or KT more than those since the fact that you have an Ax or Kx hand means that you're removing Ax and Kx combinations from your opponents and therefore the odds are slightly higher that they fold than call.

That could be totally flawed logic, too. I think it all started when I gave an example of having 10-12 bb's in MP1 and we started talking about the worst hand you'd shove there at one of the first few levels that contain antes.

That would be the start of the discussion. I guess I am sitting on the fence a bit on this one myself. I see you argument and it has a ton of validity. It is also the preeminent SnG shove strategy and backed up by a huge amount of analysis. I guess where I see the otherside of it comes with shoving at the micro stakes and the particular nuances to the game that the player types introduce. Player infatuation with broadway cards and single high cards and then calling you off because they think they have something to combat you with. I just wonder if some augmentation is required or at least worth exploring to push/fold ranges outside of the pure mathematics.
