This is in the money (last 60 players) in a $5.50 rebuy, $30,000 guarantee on PokerStars. The villain is on 18/14 over 263 hands (not all from this tourney) and hasn't been getting out of line yet. Should I have played my hand differently? And was this a good spot to bluff at the pot?

Just fold preflop. Not getting great odds to set hunt. And as played insta fold flop you only called to look and hit a set of 22s does not matter what board is if the 2 doesn't come you are done with the hand. You will make your life and decisions in poker a lot more difficult flatting oop 3bets like this from your stack here especially to someone you said has not been getting out of line.
What do you think villian's perception of you was? Had you been raising a lot pre-flop? What was his 3-bet %?
I'd usually fold to the 3 bet as well, but if I was a little deeper and thought he was playing back at me might call IP and float the flop. As played I'd be tempted to take a stab on the turn after he checks (probably because I'm a spewtard). He either thinks you're floating and plans to CR you or has something like 10-10 or AQ (possibly QQ) and might fold.
What range would you assign him preflop when he 3bets from the big blind?
His stats are pretty solid and u say he’s not been out of line i would say AQ+ JJ+ (unless you know better given all the hands you have on him)
he doesn’t bet turn or river so that rules out JJ KK AK. so that leaves QQ where he got scared of the turn and checked down, AQ for a cbet/give up or AA when hes scared of your flat on flop in case you hit the J and is unable/unwilling to go for value oop in case he gets raised and is put to a hard decision for all his chips.
If my breakdown is anywhere near correct the only hand he folds river is AQ since AA and QQ will call a single bet on river.
If you think his range is wider preflop and he 3bets more often then i think barelling turn and river representing a jack or king will work relatively often.
I pretty much had him on the range Xalendas gave, AQ+ 10+, maybe 99 too. My table image was pretty tight and I had only showed down strong hands recently.
My thinking at the time was that I was 40bbs deep and had odds to set mine (maybe a leak). I floated the flop as I thought AK and AQ were a large part of his range so I wasn't necessarily behind and was looking to take it away on turn. The K on the turn meant I could only now beat the AQ though and as played I checked down with my minimal showdown value.
The villain turned over 10 10 so maybe I am being results orientated here as I then saw I could have taken the pot away, but I think looking back I agree with DannyN13 that I should have just folded preflop as 40bbs really isn't deep enough to call.
