I played this hand in Stars Warmup today. Villain OTB is a maniac that 3bets 20 % of the hands.

There’s no way I can win this hand on any street. But is there somewhere I could fold this? I guess I could make a blocker bet on the river but that’s the only street I think I could loose less on.

What do you guys think?

I’m Calm Viking in the big blind.

wow this is much much higher than I play but here goes…

I do like your line …although I may have bet the turn some of the time…it just looks like a cooler…..im a bit of a nit not a complete nit but on that river bet what are we beating ? I guess he could play Ak this way a very small % of the time but we block AQ

By the river it seems the majority of the time he doesnt have a Jack

must be honest though some of the time I lose more than you did here its kind of a setup

oops to answer your question im not finding a fold here but its a tough spot I may have even 4bet him pre tbh

Another thing I would take note of is player 2 hes raising ep and is getting over 4/1 to call so presumably he must be very wide here im unsure what hands he could be doing this with

hope you recovered and cashed good luck smile

Someone will probably tell me it’s completely reckless but I would almost certainly 4-bet here and probably call a shove as well against a maniac. Even if he only ever gets it in with AK/AA/KK you’re still only 40-60 against that range and I’m sure he’d be wider than that. Most of the time though after a 4 bet he’ll just fold.

I just don’t understand flatting here, were you trapping or scared to be put all in? Trapping makes no real sense with QQ because any ace or king on the flop will give you some tricky decisions, especially if he’s just blasting at pots. When I see someone flat a hand like this it’s almost always AQ/AJ, 99-QQ and his range is completely uncapped, you’re out of position against a maniac plus you’re giving A5tdi pretty good odds to come along with hands like JTs or pocket 5s. And if A5tdi 4 bets behind you what do you do then? As played I would have lost much more than you did though!

As for the river decision it’s obviously not an auto call…. he’s never value betting a worse hand and if he was bluffing he would probably have barrelled the turn. Tough to fold an overpair though.

In another thread similar to this I suggested flatting in the BB with QQ, and none other than Matt Hunt explained why 4-betting was a better play. Now, the circumstances were different (stacks are deeper here), but I look forward to when he sees this thread 🙂

In a $215 tournament, I would raise to 2,000 and fold to a jam. No idea how smart that is.

I think preflop I would like to 4 bet first of all because I don’t want to play a multiway pot with a premium hand like QQ. The fact that villain otb is a maniac I am not too scared of his 3bet and hands that someone else can flat call like pocket pairs or suited aces, could be of his 3 range of 3bet. Obviously not a good situation if he 4 bets but I think preflop I would like to 3bet. Posflop without the initiative I think I would play the same way and only call the river if I think a player like this could valuebet 99 or TT otr because I don’t see too many bluffs in his range at that point. Let’s see what the pros say

I think because he is 3 betting so wide you need to 4 bet with his QQ he might out level himself or spew. i like check on flop i like check on turn but i would probably lead out on river but also checking river is ok against super agro players.

4 betting here with QQ you dont want to over rep your hand but QQ is somewhat vulnerable and his might be spewwy and you dont want the first raiser to call so i think i like 4 bet. but i am no pro
