Don't know how many of you guys saw this hand last night, but was probaby one of the grosser beats i've ever seen.
That aside, just wanted to see opinions on the play itself and whether or not it was simply a spaz out. Here's the action:
Player X opens to 4600, Deeb 3bets to 15,600, Heinzelmann 4 bets to 31,300 forcing the rest of the players including the original raiser out of the hand.
Deeb 5 bets to 68,600 with roughly 170k behind. Heinzelmann snap shoves, and Deeb snap calls.
Deeb: AdAc
Heinzelmann: As6d
Board proceeds to run out 10h6hKsQh6c
Interested in your thoughts on the move, Deeb seemed to think there was some merit to it after the fact. I'm sure their previous history online played a part in it but to me just seems way to spewey and -EV particularly when you factor in tournament life. Deeb had him just covered in the hand.
It's all about history here. They know so much about each other and what the are capable of.
That said, I think that the biggest reason Heinzelmann thinks that his shove is good is because he has an A as a blocker reducing the number of times that Deeb has AA in his range. I still think it's spewey given this tournament and the softer spots you can find.
We are actually analyzing this hand for CardPlayer so when that goes live i'll post the link here.
the players know each other well from what i understand and deeb is very capable to make a huge move in this spot so heinz went with his read and decided to rep a monster praying for a deeb fold didnt happen so he decided to get lucky. Not sure why Deeb is unable to take the live scene by storm but the life stuggles continue for him on the real felt.
I definitely think there were some dynamics there that non of us can completely understand since they had a lot of history online. I think Deeb would love to be in that spot for a 400K chip stack over and over again. I gotta say, he handled the beat with a lot of class. I got much respect for him.

In that particular spot? Like… QQ in my opinion. Because with the sizing of the bets Deeb is calling a shove > 50% of the time there Heinzelmann has little to zero fold equity and is being put into a shove/fold spot.

No, that's like his whole range period. He is not bluffing there with the sizing etc. etc.
Deeb wouldn't CIB 5 bet with air and leave Heinzelmann room to make the last move.
Plus the min 5 bet is to give Heinzelmann the impression that there could be FE when there is none.

If you listen to deebs post hand interview he speaks of their
History online. Deeb knew he was capable of a spew-shove and set his bet sizing
accordingly. Hats off to Deeb for recognizing the situation, knowing what his image has been in previous situations, knowing that his opponents knows he is capable of 5 betting light, and leaving just enough $ in his stack to give a false sense of fold equity. Literally brilliant by Deeb. And ridiculuously well planned
