Villain was running 54/9, limping a ton of hands and seemed pretty stationy. A few hands ago, he showed a bluff with total air where check/called the flop, the turn and barreled the river. Should i have just flatted here and re-evaluate the river?

i think i like a flat on turn here. not sure how to play river though cause i would normally like to throw out a small blocker bet here but he seems like he could be the type of player to try to push you off with air and i dont think we can call another raise on river. if we check on river i think we would have to make a call depending on bet sizing with guessing his hand.
what if we pot controlled the turn with a check/call then we could check/call river more often cause the pot would be smaller making his bet smaller on river?
I think with the stack sizes being so deep when starting the hand I would first of bet smaller on the flop. For the most part it is a relatively dry board and multi way, I would lead like 1/3 pot. The turn sizing was better, but the pot is slightly inflated due to the fact of your bet size on the flop bet with the villain calling, but with the turn bet size now a 1/2 pot bet down from 2/3 pot bet it does say you don't like the turn card imo. This is why it is important to have balance when betting. When the villain min raises you I think a call is just fine. You can easily see the turn to see if you hit your draw and if missed can throw a block bet and fold to a raise. You don't want to check the river looking to call bc most villains will bomb the river and now you are not in control. I think that it is a little spewy jamming over 65bb on the turn with middle pair and a draw. In these buy in levels, the one leak that I have had is calling a min raise. This is typically the nuts looking for value when villains due this. By calling the turn and then block betting the river you are controlling the pot size and can continue the tourney with more than enough bb to play poker. I hope this helps. Best of luck at the tables.
I'd really prefer check/calling flop here. This is not a good card for our hand, but we don't want to be raised off this pot from a bluff or a hand we beat. So by just check/calling the turn, we allow ourselves the chance to preserve our hand if it is the best, and lets us catch up in the case that we are behind.

I think this concept is something to really be paid attention too. By not putting youself in a situation where you are going to get pushed off a hand you can more effectively play these types of draws and give yourself a lot more opportunities to try to hit your hands rather than putting money in the pot and getting stuck folding to an awkward spot. This has started to make a big difference in my game, it is a really nice way to control pots and preserve chips with hands that have huge potential.

I agree with this as well as long as wein meant c/c turn right? not flop?
