so tonight i will be playing in a phase 2 satellite to ept Malta, so far there are 45 entrants and only one seat, does anyone have any advice on how to play satellites. surely this will be more like a regular mtt though as it is winner take all. Any advice would be much appreciated.

EDIT

bit of background knowledge, i first entered a 55c ept malta sub satellite winner take all i won that. The prize was a $27 satellite ticket where the top 10% make it through to round 2 (finished 2nd).

So my the advice I’m asking for isn’t so much basic satty knowledge its more of how to compete with more competent players as i am only a microstakes grinder

As you said, winner takes it all, the players intend to play more aggressive.

They play very tight/aggr in the first stages.

In later stages they will be very aggressive, pushing wider, calling looser and they keep the pressure high to other stacks.

gl gl für the adventure to get the seat

The 25-seat scramble on wsop.com had a similar “problem” in that a very small percentage of seats were given away.

As a general strategy, if you need to beat 99% of the field to “cash” then you need to take every +EV spot. And if you expect the average opponent to be better than what you’re used to, you’re going to need variance on your side as well.

Will your opponents alter their strategy as well, and how do you react to that? It may not matter so much because you need to outlast so many people anyway. For example, the better job people do altering their strategy, the more it increases variance (because everyone will have a wider range). But so what? That’s just how these tournaments go.

Best of luck, and I hope you’re on the right side of the bell curve long enough.

GG man. Unlucky. A winner take all satellite is definitely a spot where you can’t afford to pass up any edge at all (not that passing up edges is good in general anyway), so it’s definitely gamble time in those things.
