All,

Just decided to take the plunge and join TPE.  I have been a long time listener of the podcast and that alone has helped my game, I figured the full subscription would help take my game to the next level.

Live play, this is a satelite tournament, where there are 22 players who will play 12 tournies and the top four in points will get a trip to Vegas for a 1500 WSOP tourney.  We get 10 points for a bounty and top 10 get points where the top 3 get the majority.  We follow the structure of the WSOP events and start with 4500 chips.  The levels increase every 30 minutes and we only skip the 25/25 level.  At the time of this tourney I was 5th in points with 3 more tournies to be played, which I think should come into play during my decision making.  This is a hand I played in the last tourney….

blinds 100-200, about 20 minutes to the next level.  I have been knitting a sweater, played a total of three hands all tourney.  This is not my normal play and was even commented on by other players at the table.

I have about 6500 on the button and am dealt QspadeJspade.  A middle postion player opens for 500 with about 5k behind, so I call .  This player is fairly tight, but can get a little creative from time to time.

This is the first question, do I even call here?

Flop comes Qclub6diamond3spade and player leads out for 1k, to me it seemed like a C bet so I call wanting to see how he acted on the turn.

Turn comes the 4spade giving me top pair and a flush draw.  Player leads with a shove which I have covered by about 1k.  Without the spade, this is an easy fold.  However with the spade it gives me sooo many more outs I felt as though a call was warranted.  In fact I put the player on As, Ks or AQ, but was hoping for As and Ks giving me two more outs.  I really felt this was borderline either way.  Thoughts?

FYI he had AQos and I bricked.

25bb effective…i just fold pre. maybe with your tight image you can 3b and get him to fold a big chunk of his range but there just isnt enough chippies in the pot for it to be worth it. if you were deeper and/or with antes in play, there are merits to flatting or 3b but leaning more towards flatting.

I agree with Shutemdown. By flatting here with QsJs you are setting yourself up for trouble because like you said the player is fairly tight and happened to have you crushed. As played you obviously aren't going anywhere but I like a fold pre or a small 3 bet/fold to a shove as a better line.

I think folding>>>>3b/folding>>>>>flatting.  Just because the player was tight and stacks being the way they are.  Just not enough in the pot and it's difficult to play QJss profitably 25bbs effective with no antes.  Especially against a tight player.  Is he capable of getting that tricky pre ante?  You also state you were 5th in points with 3 tourneys to play so you want to be inching up the ladder and getting as many points as possible.
