Hi folks.

I’ve been playing around 50 average Buyin for a while, pretty comfy at the $30 and below, feel I have an ok win rate at the $109’s that I take shots at, but I’ve never played a $540 tourney before.  What should I expect?  Obviously tougher field, the Milly should invite a lot more international pro’s since they’ll expect more fish, softer field (i.e. me).  But hey, I took my shot with a $66 Satellite, i’m there to win it.  That said, my main thought is that I’m going to notice a few reg names, guys I know have more experience in a lot more spots than me, how do I play effectively vs. them.  Having just watched Andrew Boros hand reading and range construction videos and all of his C-bet theory stuff it almost feels like I should try to GTO the heck out of spots, like if I’m up against some solid regs I know and have watched streaming, but at the same time I feel like I should just play my game, be smart, take my time making decisions and think deeply about each spot as if my life depended on it.  I’m sure to many of you this is silly, its a MTT like any other, but this field I feel is going to be tough and while I’ve had great results of late I don’t want to play ultra timid and just miss profitable spots.  I want this FT so bad.  I want to play my own best perfect game.  Thanks, maybe more of a rant than a MTT Strat post, but if you guys have thoughts on how you’ve felt when you played something way over your bankroll (due to satellite) and how you coped with being a bit nervous let me know!!!

12 hours isn’t enough time to get a response.

Andrew also says not to play satellites into tournaments that you otherwise wouldn’t buy into for bankroll reasons. But you did, and you won, so now you’re where you’re at. Assuming a slower structure because of the buy-in, don’t put yourself in situations where you have to take unnecessary risks. At least you’ve played 109s before so you have some idea of how these bigger events can go. Your HUD can help you identify recreational players taking a shot as well as those who may have won a satellite such as yourself. I think there are sites that let you see a screen name’s history. It will help you see who’s a reg at higher stakes.

My advice will be the same as joelshitshow, don’t take unnecessary risks. Trust your instinct and don’t play scared, you need to threat this as any other tournament you play but maybe with more respect in all-in spots.

Otherwise just play the game that brought you this far and hopefully that will get you to a final table.
