Hey there,
I’m just looking for some advice from Canadian pros who have had experience recovering taxes withheld by the US government.
I had about $26k withheld this summer in Vegas and everyone I talk to seems to have a different answer for me (and the IRS website isn’t much help either).
All the services I’ve looked at seem to want a huge percentage of what they recover. So I guess what I’m looking for is a good accountant who has experience with this?
I live in Toronto, so someone in the area would be ideal.
Really any advice from someone who has gone through this before would be very helpful
Thanks!
Are you a professional? if so its a bit trickier but if you have full time employment then all the tax you pay on winnings can be recoverd, 10-12% will be the standard rate for a tax recovery sevice and any accountant can get you fixed up with one. If your a pro then you will have to prove tourney entries/losses and exspenses and you will be taxed accordingly. I hope this helps…

I do still have a full time job so that helps. Any specific service or accountants that you’ve dealt with in the past? I would just prefer to go with a service that someone has had success with before, instead of picking one at random. Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to give them free advertising
