Hi there,

lately I tend to play quite a few of the 3xturbo tournaments on stars and I was wondering until what blind level rebuying is advised.
I tend to rebuy until the BB is > 1/8th of my stack or, sometimes I stall until the add-on period, because the 30k chipboost seems to give you a great shot, especially in satellite tournaments.
I often see successful pros rebuying even in later stages of these tournaments, even when the bigblind is bigger than 2 double-rebuys!
What do you guys recommand? – and is there any math behind this to back up the arguments?
I would also be interested in general rules for turbo and 2x turbo tournaments as well.
The only thing I know, is that rebuying in normal tournaments usually is always profitable.

I’m curious as to what others think about this as well.
I play a lot of turbos and feel comfortable late regging or re-entering down to 7-8BB. Bank roll may come into play? Like you need to be better bankrolled to buy in at 8BB than you do to buy in at 50 BB? Not sure.
Of course, if there is a large addon for a good price, you can rebuy down to however few BB you need to survive to the addon – 1BB or less if the reg period lasts into the addon phase.
I’ve done zero math on the subject, except for measuring how much math I’ve done on the subject.

There's no specific strategy that's been defined as optimal in these tournaments, to my knowledge. However, I've seen strong evidence from large samples of multiple players playing rebuy SNGs which seems to indicate that the best strategy in terms of ROI is to simply get to the add-on stage of the tournament as cheaply as possible. It's unclear if this is also best in terms of hourly rate, and things are going to change pretty drastically when Stars starts raking rebuys for many countries in 2015, but for the time being, that's the idea.

When it comes to what stack depth you should rebuy, I'm honestly not sure. I tend to just click double auto-rebuy and get to the add-on stage no matter what, because the 1r 2x/3r 3x/8r 2x are all pretty soft tournaments and I feel like I'm throwing away an edge if I spend $X on entering a soft tournament and deliberately leave it before the add-on. There are so many weak players who do exactly that, that the dead money in the prize pool makes them pretty good value. However, there's a decent likelihood that what I'm doing is suboptimal, so I'm definitely willing to listen to other theories.

Thanks for your input ginger!

Yeah, dead money and fish is what makes me stay a little longer sometimes or stall it out to the add-on. : )
