Hi TPE nation.

Long time follower (or should I say stalker), first time poster. Keep up the good job!

I wanted to ask you all what kind of information do you most rely on to quickly establish player profiles at the table.

Aside from seeing hands that make it to showdown, what observations help you put a player in a certain category such as fish, potentially solid player, spewy,….

For example, lines of play I tend to use:

– somone who would consistently open limp instead of raising

– someone who is not consistent in his preflop raise, min raising and out of the blue open raise to 10x,

– lines of play that make absolutely no sense even without seeing the showdown

– plays too many hands

– no pot control whatsoever

– call preflop raises in pos and seems to alway fold to cbets despite being headsup and with pos (no floating)

Just wondering what kind of information you are targetting at the beginning of a new tourney or after being moved to try to rapidly get an initial feeling for the quality of each player at the table.

Or do you just don't attempt to profile players early in the game, just play your abc pokjer early on and keep that stuff for later when making it deeper. Most of you multi table MTTs anyhow so you probably don't have time to overanalyze each table (simply rely on HUD stats after a couple orbits).

Thanks

use some free searches on OPR or Sharkscope if it'll help.

sharkscope definitely helps

i think i adapted most of it from betudontbet's video series, but i colour code players based on their sharkscope profiles or other features. i usually do this whenever i meet someone that either looks really good or really bad, and the middle ones i fill in by sharkscoping people when we say get down to the final few tables etc.

yellow – standard note – no other info

green – fish

light blue – regfish

blue – TPE

purple – someone i know personally

magenta – sicko – usually more than 100k winnings

good reg – highish buyin and big winning player

orange reg – usually someone that has played more than 1000 games and is a moderate winner but still plays <$10 ABI

In addition to a Pt4 HUD, I also use tournament poker shark which shows games played and rates players etc. It attaches to the table in a drop down box so you don’t have to type names into Sharkscope. Also shows average buy ins, bust out %ages (low, mid, late) and more. Stars stats are limited but it does show games played and player ratings from top shark.
Without any reads or HUD stats on a new player this is a great way to pick a reg or fishy player. It works on Stars,888 and others but not Lock.

I think I’ve mentioned this one before but it’s worth a go of the free trial. It’s great to know what a player is rated over how many games before making a tough decision.
