Besides your stack size, there are a lot of stacks behind you that can three-bet shove. That points me toward folding pairs below 7s. But if Merge tournaments are normally pretty shallow then you’ll always have three-bet shove stacks behind you. Even then I would probably fold pocket pairs below 5s.

A fold is certainly acceptable. I’m looking at the stacks of the folks in the blinds and they’re HUGE! They’re certainly going to be inclined to call you for a min-raise if they have any decent hand with potential, all of which are detrimental to pocket 3’s. You’re pretty much forced to cbet any flop because chances are you’re not going to improve to a set, and a cbet will be the only way you can likely win (unless it gets checked down and he has air, but that’s unlikely) – overcards are very bound to hit the flop. I think I’m playing 88+ AQo+. Anything else, you can afford a fold. Blinds will call putting you in awkward spots with small pockets, and there’s a few unfavorably sized stack sizes behind you, too, that could easily 3bet jam and that you’d have to fold to with small pockets.

You could profitably open shove 66+, ATs+, A3s-A5s, AQo+, KTs+, QTs+, so you shouldn’t be open folding any of those. Of course someone of them might be more profitably played as smaller raises, which enables you to have a small raise-folding range as well (probably drawing from AJo and KQo). But folding 33 is fine/good. It’s got no blocker value and has a hard time realizing equity post-flop when it doesn’t make a set.

I fold but it is an interesting spot with short stacks in LP and BIG stacks in the blinds. Our UTG open may work like a squeeze….and I kind of like it after thinking it through. Reads would help. I think this is majorly game-flow-dependent.

BUT….I think if we open we have to fold to any raise. If it folds to the CO/BTN who shoves 10BBs and everyone folds I’d have to weight the range much higher considering the shove over our UTG open and the size of the stacks in the blinds, so I think I fold rather than race for 1/2 my stack. The math is probably close…?

Ideal situation is to see it fold around to the blinds, get a call from both, and then set-mine. Taking a step back, this whole situation becomes pretty thin…opening hoping for the chance to hit a set. I think the implied odds need to be even higher adding in the risk of needing to fold so often PF?

So I think with 25+ BBs I like this spot if the table feels right for it, but at 20 I think I prefer to preserve my stack for better spots, considering I’m about to go through the blinds and I don’t know when the current level ends

Thoughts?

I think I open small PP with over 27bb, with 25bb if I open and cbet flop, when that don´t work I will be with ~20bbs when blinds hit me, leaving me a resteal stack… not sure tow.
