$5.50 MTT on Stars.

I wanted to start mixing in some suited connectors and suited Aces into my game, and felt like 36BBs was the lowest number of chips I should do this with.

Should I cbet here or check/call? I feel like cbetting only gets worse hands in the form of a flush draw to call, but all better Ax hands come along.

CO: 11/11 over 9 hands
BB: 33/22 over 9 hands

Full table UTG with no need i would fold A4. With Marginal hands like Ax and connectors I would only open a pot in a late position, especially since with your stack size you are not desperate to make a play.

You get 2 calls and your Ace is easily dominated.

If you know how the CO plays, his turn bet could just be a stab at stealing the pot, since you showed weakness. If you think CO is on a draw you defenitely should have to make him pay for it.

Without any info on the way villain is playing I would probabely call and check/fold the river.

With your stack pre, I don't necessarily hate the open, however pretend you are opening pocket 6s vs a suited ace.  The odds of flopping a flush draw is about the same as flopping a set.  If you don't flop a set with a middle pair, you wouldn't compound it with c betting multiway right?  However, if you connect with the flop (by flopping the nut flush draw) then I am prepared to go with it, however on the same note, it is easy to get away from (when missing).  When flopping an ace don't fall in love with it.  I would rather c/c with the flopped ace for pot control and reevalute the turn.  By c/c the flop you may improve your hand with the bd flush and straight draw.  By c betting multi way you are bloating the pot.

With the way played though, I think you can get the same information by c betting about 1/3 pot then 1/2 pot so if called you keep the pot small (while gathering information) and can improve on the turn, where now it is cheaper to double barrel.  I think you will get all the information you need by seeing how the villains play post.  By opening utg aces are definitely in your range and if they miss they are going to proceed cautiously as well.  Best of luck at the tables!

I don't hate the open.  I make it depending on how the table is playing.  However, when you make a move at a pot with speculative hands, I proceed as follows:

1) When heads up take at least one more shot at winning the pot post flop without showdown.

2) Look to flop 2 pair or better or a solid draw.

3) If I flop one pair and meet resistance, fold.

Of course all of these are generalizations and there are always exceptions.  In general, I fold the turn here.  You might be good and he floated with a FD, or he could be thinking he's good with something like 88, but overall, you are just guessing.

Calling this bet may commit you to have to call a shove on the river.  Your stack will have about 2,800 left and the pot will have almost 3,400.  So you must ask yourself if you are willing to go all in on this hand.  If not, plan ahead for the eventual possibility of a river shove and if you cannot call the river shove, you really can't call here.
