Just mini cashed at no limit tournament at Sugarhouse in philly.  Tough table. Villain in this hand positionally aware, lag but able to make big laydowns on river.  Doesn't ever fold to 3 bets and never 4 bets.

Hero 120,000

Villain 150,000

250/500/50

Folds to villain on button who raises to 1500.  Hero in small blind with jj and call  (I know, I know).  Flop  5heart5clubTdiamond.

Hero checks. Villain bets 2500. Hero raises to 7000.  Villain reraises to 20,000. Hero folds.  Thoughts?  I actually know what he had because he texted about the hand to his friend later.

Stacks are right here? You're 240 BBs deep? I'm not wild about the no 3-bet, but you seem to know that already. As played, I'd lean towards just calling flop because your hand isn't really good enough to put in four bets and he'll value bet a lot of second best hands anyway if you are checking and calling. You can always bet river if turn checks through, or bet turn and river if flop checks through, so you're guaranteed to get at least two bets in even without check raising.

Once he three-bets flop it's a nasty spot (part of why I don't like check-raising, though it really shouldn't happen that much). There are exploitive reasons to think he wouldn't put in a big 3bet with trips+, but your hand is defintiely just a bluff-catcher, and if you don't have reason to think he's bluffing too much here, it's probably best to fold.

Yeah. I was deep at this point.  I didn't 3 bet cause of his 100% 3 bet call and I didn't want to be playing a good player out of position when he could have any 2 cards.  Probably a mistake.  Once he raised my check raise, I put him on TT, trips, or air.  Figured I was bluff catching.  Thanks.
