Pretty simple spot; Bovada $55 25k, 40/80 blinds;
CO opens 160, I raise to 430 on the button, (note that the co only started w 1645; I have 5565, the BB has 5190)
Now the player in the BB I don’t remember a lot, just that he was calling a lot pre, and not raising much and I dont think had 3bet ever the entire tournament so far.
So BB cold 4bets to 1020 and it folds back to me w AQo….
What’s your play?

def would call co had sb/bb fold. As to defending any two; I need 26.3% to call and that is assuming we always realize our equity which is certainly not the case. So if I give him a range with some semi light 4bet/f type hands (TT+AJs+KQs,AQo+) we have 38.59%, If we tighten this up to say JJ+,AQs+,AKo we have 29.36%.
So I guess the real question is how wide would you expect a player who has not 3bet ever over say 30-50 hands to be cold 4betting in this spot. Additionally, I think he should not really expect to be 3bet/f a ton vs the co since hes pretty short, although theres no antes so I can be light and still fold, plus I don’t really expect this player to be thinking on that high a level anyways…

I would just fold this one. Might consider peeling with AQs. My main reasons being that the CO started with only 20 bbs so generally they are much tighter here. Also from someone that hasn’t 3b yet the entire tourney, I’m not super happy calling and flopping top pair. Being pre-ante plays a big part too. In my experience, people aren’t getting out of line here. I don’t think those tight players are capable of going crazy here with worse aces, medium suited connectors or small pairs.
That being said, if I’m getting my opponent to fold AQ here, maybe I’ll start taking this spot more often! 🙂

Yeah, this is pretty similar to what i was thinking. I guess he ended up having 66 looking up the HH, but I think thats not very typical so idk maybe ppl are wilder than I think here lol

AQo is super close here. AJo I’m snap folding since villain’s range is so tight, we are getting good odds so it would be tempting if villain had even a slightly wider range but tbh I think we’re so unlikely to realise our equity here that I’m totally okay just folding.
AQs though…I’m never folding that. Any suited hand in our 3-betting range needs to be a call in position here, since it’s so much easier to realise equity with suited hands.
