1. MOTIVATION/HOURLY RATE

i've been kind of burnt out lately of playing poker basically because I
don't have a 3k+ roll yet or whatever. I have the mindset that it's just
a waste of time to even bother grinding the 5-10$ tournies or the 4.40s
when in the end you're barely making any money and can probably do
better for yourself sitting at a cash register making 8$ an hour with no
variance. would it be a better step for me to continue watching PXF
videos/reading forums etc and just trying to broaden my study of poker
whilst I work some easy job and try to save up for a respectable 2-3k
roll to actually start playing at least the 20-30$ tournies? has anyone
else had this mindset that I'm in and is it terrible to have?

2. BANKROLL

Anyone have any suggestions on what games to play for this
SNG/MTT-wise? I'm having a bit of trouble it seems i'm just breaking
even/losing slowly. Been mixing around playing different things and i
can't decide which game would be best for this roll. maybe just play the
11$ and under MTTs? any input is appreciated

3. QUESTION HIGH VOLUME PLAYERS

If you're having a bad downswing do you take a brefak and play sngs only
or keep playing mtts? and if you play sngs, what sngs do you play? ty

N.B The above  questions were posted by HitthePanda in 2007 on P5s.

I happened to play EPT London and PCA qualifer last sunday and bust my 2k Bankroll because I'm impatient and not good enough. I want to start building a sustainable BR. I saw Panda playing these and many others.

So I wanted to know how he did it. I saw on p5s he has won a fair bit and so I wanted to read his old posts. It's amusing he has been through the same problems that I'm having now. We appear to be on a poker ladder, just like I can give advice to a guy to never go bust in the first hand to two all-ins holding A6. You guys are above us; so can any one you guys, now pros answer the above questions. Back then he got few  decent replies.

Much appreciated

Nice find 🙂

So you're saying you have the same questions I did?  I wouldn't have played those quallifiers with a 2k roll.  That's just suicidal, best case scenario you win a seat and then you may lose the tournament you get a seat to and you have nothing then, super high variance.  I ended up sticking to the 12$ 180's and grinded them, and kept playing some mtts on the side.   With the sizes of the low limit mtts though, you absolutely cannot rely on a steady growth in your roll playing only them so I definitely reccomend playing the 12 45's / 180's etc on the side during your sessions and I ended up merging into doing that, even after I got backed I continued playing them on the side because they're so +EV.  Just use 100-200 buyin bankroll management, have some patience, and play your best game and never play when you don't want to and you will see results

Let me know if I can further elaborate on this

I had sateliied in to both events. I should have just kept the money as bankroll. I'll take your advice and just grind the $2.20 till I'm rolled for $12 180 mans. Then go from there.

Hang in there, HTP. Poker's a tough game but you'll get some results some day if you keep at it…

lol

Love re-reading some of the old posts from really solid players back when they were struggling to make it all work.
