Hey

I've been trying to figure out card combination's.

so here's a method i found online – Multiply the number of available cards by the number of available cards minus 1, then divide by two.
Word equation: [(available cards) x (available cards – 1)] / 2 = total combinations

C = total combinations

A = avaliable cards

C = A*(A-1)/2

Here's a example.

How many combinations of TT are there on a KT4 flop?

Well, on a flop of KT4 here are 3 Tens left in the deck, so…

C = [(A) * (A-1)] / 2
C = [(3) * (3-1)] / 2
C = [3 * 2] / 2
C = 3

The answer is 3 , but i've been trying to figure out the formula on my calculator , and it keeps coming up as 4 and it's really bothering me.

just by looking at these formula's it's confusing me way to much.

so if there's 3 Ts left in the deck (avaliable cards) you have to times that with 3 so thats 9 then you minus 1 which is 8 and then u divide by 2 which = 4

so there's 4 combos of Ts in my caculations , which is really weird….

if anyone can like help me with this , that would be great…

sorry if this post is a bit confusing btw.

Remember grade-school math? To get the correct answer of 3 you have to complete the expression inside the brackets before anything else. If you followed their workings line-by-line you would have noticed this.

Google search BOMDAS.

Is your calculator a scientific calculator that can do advanced expressions? If not do the parts in the bracket first separately and write out the individual coefficients before inputting a long expression such as your formula.

EDIT: …..binations/ – This is the link you were looking at. Whilst they have a simple equation for working out combinations of specific hands (paired/unpaired) on a flop they have just used combinatorics theory. They do not explain well what changes are to be made in other situations. Whilst these two formulas can be handy, you might want to look at combinations for a range and how a range is broken up on certain boards or combinatoric theory itself to add your own variables in. For whole range combo analysis use either Flopzilla or CREv.

Otherwise, this link may give you some insight into whats involved: …..tions.html

cheers man.

so basically it goes like this 3-1 = 2

then 3×2=6

and then we 6/2 = 3

yeah?
