I’m new to this site and feel like I have learned a ton already.  I have a question about playing AK in a MTT.  Lets say you have 40 big blinds middle to late in a tournament.  You are in late position and a player raises 2.5 times the big blind in early position and another good player behind him goes all in for all of your stack.  Both are good players and have you covered.  How often do you fold?  You are probably a coin flip.  I just don’t like putting my tournament life on the line when I am in good shape, when I will loose half the time.  If he has KK or AA, much worse.  Thanks for the help and love the site.

ace king is best when moving all in when you are 20 bigs or less (smaller if you follow the ten bb rule ).

otherwise when you raise, and there is a caller and reraise at best you are flipping and you could be dominated.

ace king you raise,, hit the top pair top kicker is its strength, suited is better for the flush, but jack ten is good as well for you can hit many straights, just sometimes not the nuts.

ace king is a drawing hand,  the reason why you go all in with it is you can’t get forced to fold and might pick it up on the river or turn , when if you saw the flop and saw the flop and missed  you would fold.

Both good players and what is the stack size of the player shoving, knowing effective stacks is important. Also we should give them both credit for some sort of hand. We have 40BB I think we can find better spots. I like shoving more than calling, in a case where some guy open shoves based on his stack size and what we know about him this is a fist pump insta shove. But in the case you described it doesnt sound so good. We arent hurting for chips yet, and with nothing invested I think you can fold this hand and feel ok based on the information you have at that point.

Thanks for the replies.  That is pretty much what I thought, but nice to here from others.

In the scenario you describe I would fold, however if the dynamic is there I would easily 4bet this if the 2nd raiser had not of jammed.  I have no problem just shoving with AK with up to 30bbs.

Yeah, I would have no problem shoving if the guy before me didn’t do it first.  Just don’t like calling for all of them.

I agree I hate shipping AK when you have like  two guys already all in for a large portion of your stack. I need some good reads and looking at their stats beofre I decide to call. Its not an insta call for me and I have folded it plenty especially when the donk shoves and the rock wakes up and pushes.

1- Me too.

2- very rarely.  watch this:

Board:
Dead:
equity win tie      pots won pots tied
Hand 0: 31.664%   26.51% 05.15%    1785264093 346745886.17   { AcKd }
Hand 1: 31.339%   28.92% 02.42%    1946932987 163194508.17   { 66+, ATs+, KTs+, QJs, AJo+ }
Hand 2: 36.996%   33.16% 03.84%    2232485300 258520873.67   { 88+, AJs+, AQo+ }

and then sometimes people spew with worse and you win even more!

3- you’ll get over it.

4- when you lose half the time, you win the other half.  when you double up a 40bb stack you get 80 bb’s!

5- happens.
