Hello friends,
This is a hand I played in a $200 buy in live tournament. We start with 10k chips and blinds start at 25-50 and go up every 20 mins. Our table is 8 handed (out of 10). I am on the button and I am dealt QQ.. I am starting to love my life :). Here is how the action goes –
SB: 25
BB: 50
Folded to CO.
CO: Calls 50
B(Hero): QQ Raise to 150
BB calls, CO calls.
At this point, I am not putting either of them on a very strong hand, as this is the first hand and I am raising on the button and could be just abusing my position here.
Pot: 475
Flop: 9 2 4
BB checks, CO checks, B(hero) checks behind.
<<I feel I am still holding the best hand here and no reason to drive people off the pot. I also have the backdoor flush draw.>>
Turn: 2
BB checks, CO bets 400. I raise to 1500.
<<I thought betting 400 into 475, villain was repping a good hand that he woudln't want to give up. I hence raised to 1500. I also wanted to get more value for my hand. Any thoughts on this line? Criticisms are most welcome!!>>
CO calls.
Pot: 3475
River: 6
CO checks. Hero bet 2500, CO folds
<<While analysing, I am feeling that the river bet is way too big and I might have gotten a call from CO with 1500 or even lesser. What do you guys think?>>
I know this is not a tough situation or a very hard to play hand, but I feel we get a lot of simpler hands like these in a normal game and many of us make mistake of not extracting max value. I am pretty sure I haven't extracted as much value as I should have after post mortem of the hand. Your insights please!!!

Well, I'm no expert, but I'd def. bet that flop. Watch some vids here, missing that first bet costs a lot of $. Also, on that river, I'd personally prob just check and show down. I doubt you're going to get called by worse and there is a chance that you are going to get check raised and have a tough decision. Looks like a busted flush but who who knows. Just my 2c GL

I agree with most of this, but don't see any reason to check back river. I think you're overestimating the likelihood of getting check-raised. You really think Villain is folding T9?
OP,
The reason to bet the flop isn't to make people fold, it's because of what they might call with (draws, lower pairs). You end up putting two bets into the pot anyway when you raise the turn, but I'd rather do this by betting flop and then betting turn. You should check out my Getting Paid series. Also, raise larger pre. Again, not because you want folds, but because lots of hands you're crushing will call, and you want to put more money in the pot. I'd make it 200.

Hi,
First I would have raise a little bit more pre-flop for the reason that you can get a little bit more value for your hand and also it doesnt give the chance to have the SB and BB calling with hands like Kx suited, A-rag suited by giving them good odds and hit top pair.
C-Bet lets say half the pot post-flop for value should be good unless he puts you on Premium hands (which I don't think so cause 3betting a CO with a wide range from button is standard cause the CO is also normally on a wide range too and only want to take the blinds) or A9 he is going to call you or Check-Raise all 9x – A4 – A2 and middle pair like 55 to 88 and Flush Draw.
So you decided to check back the Flop , he decided to fire 400 and you re-raised 1500. I'm not really sure if I like it cause 1100 more is kind of scary and it feels like you open you hand to him. You could have scare him off the hand (but it didn't happen) and loose the 1100 and also what you have to think about is the next street. Lets say you raise 975 instead of 1500 the pot is now 2425 instead of 3475.
You now put 1675 on the river , It's really more tempting than 2500 right for him to call if he put you like on AK AQ AJ and he has a 9x or middle pair cause you don't destroy his stack by making that call and you make lets say 4100 chips instead of 3475.
Thats how I see it !!
P.S I am a French Canadian so sorry for the bad English ahah
