Have a fair few hands on V on my hud. Playing 11% of 800+ hands. Has been on my table for a while and he has not 3 or 4 bet yet. He has been playing really tight, when this hand came along. I've been struggling, made a bad call and got crippled to 8 BBs and fought my way back. Just couldn't get a stack, everytime I got to a reasonable stack I would lose a chuck of it. I wanted to jam this hand so much.

I obviously cannot call, it's a jam or fold. I elected to fold, hated it but wondering if you guys would fold here. I feel the best I can hope for is he has AK and I'm flipping, I would've taken a flip with my stack had I known he had AK, but I feel this is the best case scenario. I obviously put him on AA or KK because he was playing so tight and pretty much the first time he 3 or 4 bet against me, and I was quite active. To nitty? should I have jammed and hoped for the best?

thx in advance.

Based on info given I think you made a very good, disciplined fold.

If your only ranging him as having AK/AA/KK it has to be a fold.

A good player goes with his/her read. Sometimes we can really narrow an opponents hand to just a few possible holdings. My only question is could it also be JJ? His 3bet is more than 2.5x and I feel like that is sometimes a small tell from certain types of players who bet more with hands such as TT or JJ. Wouldn't he make it slightly smaller for value with KK or AA. This is read specific, just curious if this was possible in your opinion since you had a lot of hands with villian.

Thx for the reply FK & hawkeye

I ruled out smaller pockets because of an open and my 3 bet. I don't think he is worried about making his 4 bet smaller with AA, KK or AK as the line of action before him seems certain that he is going to get some action, therefore his 4 bet seems reasonable.

His 4 bet was practically 30+% of his stack so he made it quite clear his going with this hand.  Sure he could've had JJ, TT, I doubt it, but alas we'll never know. I've been in this sort of spot so many times with QQ, putting the V on such a tight range and just jam and hope I'm wrong, but without exaggerating, I reckon 9 times out of 10 they have AA or KK and I feel so deflated, that I put them on such a tight range and ignored my read. Of course when I fold, I will never know what they had and I always feel if it was the right fold or not. Please don't think I put my opponents on AA or KK all the time. I don't, but occasionally with a tight player and line it seems that it can't be anything else.

I think if he 4 bet jammed I would've called. His 4 bet seems more to induce than if he jammed.

And how often does a nit cold 4 bet with smaller pairs than QQ? They usually jam or flat and play super passive unless they hit a set.

i dont see anything wrong with your play if you have more than an inkling that villains range is weighted more heavily toward those 3 hands

its not something that we should get into the habit of doing but there are obv times when it is the right play
