Hi All,

This is my first ever post re a poker hand so please be kind!

I am at the final table (10 handed) of the Seminole Hard Rock bounty tournament. Next out pays $2500, approx $36000 for first. I have played about 15 live tournaments in my life. I am 51 yrs old, female, high school math teacher. Started playing hold em online about 7 yrs ago and absolutely love it! Trying to become a better player every time I play.

Have played about 10 hands at this table. Tripled up early on with straight. Half the table is the typical young, aggressive, pros. I am the only woman. I assume they think I'm nitty, usual default assumption. This hand involves 2 pros with whom I have just played the hands at the final table.

Blinds 3000, 1500, 500

UTG 160,000, hero 150,000 villain 140,000  (entire table almost even stacked)

UTG raises to 7000. I flat from utg +2 with QQ, hoping to induce a squeeze from one of the ultra aggro players behind me. HiJack obliged with a raise to 22,000. UTG folds and back to me. What should I do?

I'll post the outcome of the hand in a day or two.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi YMCQ, welcome to TPE (or if you've been here a while, welcome to the forums, anyway). You say that you flatted to induce a squeeze, so you should have an idea of how you're going to respond if you get what you want.

In this case, I think you should shove. It sounds like you expect this player to have a wide range, so we can assume your hand is good enough to get all in. A smaller 3bet probably isn't going to fool anyone, especially not with your image, but it may enable him to make some correct calls. I think flatting is a big mistake with the pot being so large already and this being a final table. Much better to take down a large pot safely when you have the 3rd nuts than wait until the flop when your hand is likely to be much weaker.

I wonder about your assumptions of ultra-aggroness, though. Are these guys really squeezing that wide vs an UTG raise at a 10-handed final table? It's possible that you'd be better off just 3-betting the first time around, though I do like calling if these players really will squeeze as wide as you seem to assume.

Hi Andrew, you're the reason I joined TPE in the first place, so thanks for your response. Love the 'thinking poker podcast'.I did shove as planned, and was called by KK. Obviously, nothing I could do here, but was thinking, just as you suggested, I should have 3 bet in the first place. I still would have had a hard time folding to a 4 bet from that player. It would make his range look super strong versus a perceived nitty player like myself, but  I would still feeI he was taking advantage. I suppose we just have to accept that there's nothing we can do in certain tournament situations.

I think Andrew pretty much summed it up here. You flatted to get an induce, so when that induce comes you should be sticking with your original plan. Obviously if something really odd happens, you can adjust, but this seems to be pretty standard. It's unfortunate that you ran into KK, but that's poker.

It is nice to see that you have this tool in the arsenal. Most players are without a doubt 3bet/getting it in given your spot (which is by no means wrong). It does show some skill though to think about a flat/induce line here. Keep it up, and you will have them shoving JJ next time!

Thanks so much for the kind words, onetime! I think you and Andrew have reassured me that there wasn't much I could do here. I love reading how better players approach the various spots that come up. What an awesome game poker is!
