Hi, today i’ve faced this spot and after a bad result i’ve decided to post it on forum.

5$ tournament on pokerstars, blind 1000/2000 ante 200

Hero stack: 120k  Villain stack : 67k

We’re sitting on bb with QJo, villain open 4k on CO, we decide to flat.

Pot: 10.8k

FLOP: Jc 8d 5c

villain bets 4k, hero raise to 11.8k, villain calls

Pot: 34.4k

FIRST QUESTION: do you think that raising here is fine o do you prefer to flat here? I want to take value from FD,SD some 8 (like 87,98,A8) and some worst J.

Turn: As

We bet 17.5k and villain calls

Pot: 69.4k

River: 3d

We check villain shove 33.5 k and we call.

Villain has A8o

How do you play this hand? Are you checking turn?

Thx in advance

I think it’s an easy check-call, with the raise you are just making a bigger pot in a spot you don’t have a range advantage. And with this runout, probably check-calling turn again and check-folding river.

I like the flop c/r because it balances your range. My understanding is most people only do this with draws. Did you have the Qc in your hand?

Tell me more about your turn bet. I find myself betting the street after a check-raise a lot, which is probably a leak, and I wonder whether I’m projecting this onto your play 🙂

I think the sizing would make perfect sense if the board didn’t run out the way it did. The ace puts a lot of hands ahead of yours, unfortunately, while also giving V a reason to fold if he doesn’t have one.
