OK, first some background…

In the UK we have numerous nationwide pub poker leagues (due to our extremely relaxed gambling laws). Format is the country is split into regions, over 13 weeks pubs play a weekly game (can be for free, usually £5). Points given based on where you finish and every 13 weeks there's a regional final where top 10% qualify for yearly national final. Cash prizes come into it bigger at the regional final.

I've just moved to the area so for me it's a social thing where I can make some like minded poker enjoying friends and thinking I'll, on average over the 13 weeks. have an edge on the majority of players. As a result the play is very soft, most people min raise marginly decent and 3/4x obvious monsters. They got confused when i opened to 125 at 25/50 blinds and will call with any raggy A thinking no one else could have a better kicker, do that bad habit where they bet same on turn as they've just done on river. Sure you get the idea…..

The hand…. (Also I'm beating myself up about this already as know I played it badly but please remember this is my first strategy post and this isn't 2+2… lol)

Very early so no reads as its also my first evening playing here… I can't remember all the exacts so please bear with me on that and I'll make an effort to remember a hand in more detail each week…

I'm in the BB with 79suited. blinds are something like 30/60 and most people are around the starting stack of 5000, I'm maybe on 4500 to start and thats effective against the villian who is the UTG. So UTG min raises to open and we get about 5 callers including the SB, I'd normally bin but figure I'm getting decent odds to smash a flop and hit big etc so I come along…. (Mistake?)

Flop is 789 rainbow… with I reckon 720 in the pot….

SB leads for 60.. I raise to 150 and the UTG reraises something like 300…. all else fold including the SB, I call… (Mistake?)

Turn with about 1400 is a 2…

I lead for about 750 but can't be exact (sorry), villian shoves and has me covered…..

Hero……..?

i mean he could show up with TT A9 K9s Q9s J9s T9s

i also think that the nuts (JT) wouldnt play turn that fast so although i wouldnt be the happiest man in the world id prob get it in
