Poker Stars $10+$1 No Limit Hold'em Tournament – t100/t200 Blinds – 9 players
TournamentPokerEdge.com Hand History Converter

UTG+2: t1170 5.85 BBs
MP1: t2208 11.04 BBs
MP2: t15854 79.27 BBs
CO: t5530 27.65 BBs
BTN: t22959 114.80 BBs
SB: t4845 24.23 BBs
BB: t6446 32.23 BBs
Hero (UTG): t6650 33.25 BBs
UTG+1: t2290 11.45 BBs

Pre Flop: (t300) Hero is UTG with J of spades J of clubs
Hero raises to t450, 7 folds, BB calls t250

Flop: (t1000) Q of diamonds 4 of hearts 4 of clubs (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets t450, BB raises to t1000, Hero calls t550

Called the cr as I thought my cbet looked just that, and thought for only 550 more I'd have position to assess the turn.  I was thinking that if BB had any Q but AQ would check turn to me as he'd be worried as AQ is big part of my range…

Thoughts?

Any reads on villian or stats? If he is semi-tight then I might fold to the check/raise but if he is capable of making a lot of plays then your flat seems fine or you could even 4bet smallish since you are original raiser UTG. If you flat you are gonna probably call a lot of turn cards/bets unless they are absurd but then that makes the river decision tough in a lot of cases. I almost prefer a 4bet on this flop and fold if he comes over the top of it. You are just deep enough and it actually is cheaper/stronger considering any turn bet from villian is likely 1500+.

This is such a blah spot.  Of course there are some 4's in his flatting range but there really shouldn't be that many.  It might be easier to decipher if you have any reads or stats on villian.  I kind of like calling his c/r here as it's a way ahead/way behind situation.  If we do decide to 3-bet/fold on this flop we are turning Jacks into a bluff where we very easily could have the best hand.  I'd have to imagine he's checking most turns and when we check behind he will probably make a stab on most rivers with his bluffs and value hands.

check your c bet size, i find that when the c bet amount is the same as the open bet size it comes across as weak so make it 525 here just to get rid of this variable

agree with this, even making it 475 works

You're not deep enough to call a c/r and proceed like this. It'll be even worse if you call turn, fold river.

love the 475 or 525 instead of 450 guys – sometimes i like to c bet a little less than 1/2 pot and realise it's the same as the p/f raise (weak)

i'll always flat and evaluate turn here

paired boards are very easy to overplay both in and out of position so i'd flat and see how he reacts on turn. This tells him we have a hand and forces him to make a tough decision even with hands like KQ QJ QT, also middle pairs which we really dont want to 4bet fold to if he's crazy enough

agree that cbet size should be bigger, as hape says quite often like to cbet less than half pot and just click the 45% button I have set up on stars and when multitabling quite often dont pay enough attention to this, 475/525 sounds way better…

FWIW 13 hands with villain 2nd hand he'd played – stats 8/0

I called as I thought I may still have the best hand and it could slow him down with pairs under a Q, or Q's that arent AQ (not ever really expecting a 4 in his calling range), after all its a good flop for me to cbet without connecting

like I said AQ is a good part of my range UTG – get a check on turn and maybe call a bet on river if I dont improve and the board blanks / doesnt look too scary….
