I didn’t take advantage on online poker in the us but I played live quite a bit until 2008, now that my life affords me more time to play I’ve been slowly getting into studying off the felt. Online players definitely are ahead of the curve versus players restricted to live play… What’s the best way for me to get in the hands, hours, n experience at lower risk??

I had my bankroll to 6k in 2011, I played mostly cash games with a few final tables in my local casino tourneys. That bankroll came from a 500 tourney cash in 2008. I’m good at keeping my poker money separate from my real world money. While in school, I played here n there turning that 500 to the 6k… Late 2011 n early 2012, went on huge downswing, played in higher buy in tourneys I wasn’t ready for, played in higher stakes cash, n I tried playing more games like O8, 7stud, LHE n now I’m way down to a 800 roll! That’s 4 buy ins in my local casino or one good tourney!

I’m stuck n don’t know how to approach this predicament. I need a way to gain more experience, n manage my bankroll.

I also use poker academy at home to get in hands but i don’t know how to take full advantage of the software.

I'd deposit a tiny amount on Merge, Lock or America's Card Room and practice there.  Even if it's 50 bucks and you play $1 tourneys.

There are some drawbacks you need to be aware of though.  First, the environment is very unstable and your money will always be at risk with US serving sites.  They could either go out of business at any time, get shut down by the DOJ, or be shady like FTP.

Second, at small buyins (and even a lot of the larger ones) the structures are fast.  It won't exactly replicate what you get on stars or Tilt, or very well structured live tourneys.  But it will resemble a lot of standard live tourneys.

Those are the risks.  However, it will solve your problem of needing to get more hands in.  For me I was willing to put a few hundred on there and keep fresh.

I've been playing on merge and lock since black friday and it's kept me sharp and even improving, along with using the resources here at TPE. cool
