Hey Guys,

This hand was played in a $3,30 Bounty Tournament on stars. We are already ITM and down to ~220 Players. The speed is regular.

In this scenario I was pretty lost. Think I played it incorrectly here, but have no idea how to play it differently. Being “down” to 34 BB of an effective stack vs. a Villain who did fold 0/10 times to 3bets and seems to be pretty aggro overall. He 4bet just one time though and flatted the rest of the times. He and I have no dynamic together whatsoever. Three hands before he doubled up against someone else with a premium. So there is even less chance that he can hold a bluff here. He even puts me all-in right away! So I don’t know what to do with the 9’s here.

I thought about flatting here at first, but not sure if that makes sense since it can put us in tough spot since a LOT of the times we have at least one overcard.

So.. maybe it’s a good idea to 3bet and cbet almost any flop when he flats and fold to a shove, picking up the dead money and making things easier on us like that?

Wondering what the pro’s in here think about that 🙂

Cheers!

In my opinion this is a really good spot to flat the 9’s pre.  There is one squeeze stack in the bb, but I think that we can very comfortably get it in vs. them if they ship.  When we flat and bb ships and MP folds, we can get it in pretty happily, but if MP flats or reshoves I think we can fold comfortably.  When we 3bet we get put in this tuff spot vs. the 4bet, and I think the 9’s are going to play very well in pos. HU.

Yeah I would flat pre. If you had V covered it’s a different story because then you could win his bounty.

I get that it’s a bit uncomfortable if you call and the flop is K74 or something, but you can’t build your entire strategy around never getting drawn out on or never getting into an uncomfortable spot. I mean, look, you raised and got an uncomfortable spot anyway. And if you 3bet and he calls, the K74 flop is still uncomfortable, and now the pot is larger to boot. Dealing with tough spots is just part of poker, you can’t run away from it.

And frankly, the K74 isn’t even THAT uncomfortable. You’ll start by check-calling a bet on the flop. It won’t be the most profitable call you ever made, but it will be solidly better than either raising or folding. If he keeps betting, do your best, but at that point the EV difference between calling and folding will probably be minimal.

If the flop is KQ4, you’ll just check and fold right away. Yes, it’s unpleasant, but again, you could 3bet and still get that flop. You just have to play postflop and make the best of it, even if it does mean sometimes getting bluffed or drawn out on.
