Hi

I recently played a live tourney and want to talk about this hand
It’s 9 handed and the blinds are 300/600 with 50 ante. I’m utg and have roughly 21k with 88 I raised to 1600 a short stack shoves for 4500. Folded round to the button who had me slightly covered he tanks for ages before he flat calls the 4500. It comes round to me I think and decide to shove allin to protect my hand. Button thinks and then fold shows kq off suit.
Have I played this right because the gives me some needle about my play.
Thanks for any feedback

It depends on the situation.  If it is some sort of bubble spot, there are some merits on flatting and attempting to take the short stack out in a 2 on 1 situation.  But if it is not a bubble spot, your goal is to win chips and not knock players out.

However, I'm not sure I shove all in with 88 there, unless you ahve reads on the other two players.  Overall, 88 is near the bottom of the value opening range UTG and you get 3 bet shoved on by a player who should know he has no fold equity.  Then the button cold calls the UTG open and 3 bet shove, so all in all 88 is not really looking too good against the possible ranges of these two players.  At the very best case scenario you are against two overs and a medium pair like 66 or 77.  More likely you are against two overs in both spots, and quite possibly, against an over pair and two overs.

I'm not really sure what the best play here is TBH, but shoving 88 is not by any means standard.  Especially live where players are not as loose as online.

Additionally, the way the button played KQ may have been my line if I had a hand like AA or KK setting you up hoping you would try to isolate.

Thanks for that. I noticed button had been flatting a lot of open raises, so i thought he was weak and would get him fold. Some good points which I will take on board to help me improve my game.
