$400 live MTT

Blinds 300/600/75 18K effective. Hero has 22K. Villain somewhat erratic calls a little too often He lost a big pot KK < AQ all in preflop.

Preflop – Villain raises hijack 1400. Villain calls BB with 87o

Flop (3850) 765cc. Hero checks. Villain bets 1500. Hero raises 4000. Villain thinks a while and calls.

Turn (11850) 8h Hero bets 8K villain raises all in 13K hero calls.

I am fine with the pre-flop call of 800 to win 3000 with two connected cards and 30BB effective stacks. I'm much more confused about flop and turn. Not sure if c/r is best. Definitely confused on the turn. He shouldn't have many 9s or 4s in his range, I beat all his one pair hands and block some sets, yet if he raises I am probably toast.

I'm not sure that the check raise achieves much other than bloating the pot and folding out his air.  The only good thing that can happen is that he calls with just a big club and a couple of overcards – and even that isn't too great a spot for you.  I would just flat on the flop, planning to check call most turns and reevaluate on the river.

I agree with just check/calling the flop, I think our hand is not strong enough or weak enough to raise. And life sucks if he shoves on us and we miss out on the chance to realise draw equity. And I definitely think we have bet way too big on the turn. If he raises we are beat and we have priced ourselves in to call, whereas if we bet say 4k and he shoves we have room to fold and save the chips.

That said, I think the optimal line is check call flop, check call turn and evaluate the river. As played I imagine he turned over 89 and was debating whether to shove or call when you raised the flop?

Yes, I agree the CR on the flop is notr particularly great, but the bet on the turn is much worse IMO. It will fold out everything that you have beat and give free chips to everything that has you beat. Except maybe sets, but those should jam the flop most of the time.
