Villain opened quite a few hands when i pick up 88 in BB. I want to 3 bet, being the agressor since i am oop rest of the hand so i can also rep a stronger hand since i 3 bet his early open.
do we agree or do we flat better?
Once he calls flop i dont think i can let him fold for another bet so i give up on turn. Anyone has a different line?

this early in the tournament im not a fan of 3 betting this spot, the blinds are so tiny you dont get anything by winning the pot pre, and more often then not hes gonna call your 3 bet, now your OOP in a bigger pot that your hand isnt gonna play great in

as played i bet bigg on flop (this early in the tournament betting this much smaller than your 3 bet on this board is really bad imo) and bet turn, i think people are peeling flop and giving up soo much on turn, and also this isnt really a board your gonna barrell on often after you get flatted on the flop so i think it looks a little stronger as well

Yeah early stage MTT play is pretty basic. With small pocket pairs, especially oop, we should be playing them for set value, and trying to maximize profit when we do hit our sets. I agree with Shawn, we never want to bloat the pot preflop when oop with such a marginal hand (if we dont hit our set). Best line would be to flat pre, and we can call once if the board is non threatening and you can easily just check fold to a cbet if the flop comes like it did.
