I kinda feel pretty good about the way I played this hand. I think when we open here and get 3-bet, our hand is to strong to fold but I think we aren’t deep enough to 4-bet unless we are going to shove. I guess we could have shoved hoping to get called by hands exactly as the villain has.
I think we can call the flop bet. Although, looking at it now, maybe that was a mistake given the flop bet sizing. But if he has AK here, I think he’s c-betting also. My turn shove was basically this: I don’t think villain is ever folding and neither are we. I think we have to much equity to just check/fold. So I decided to just get it in first. What do you guys think about the way I played this? Do you think calling the near pot-sized flop bet was a mistake? What are your thoughts?

The flop is a good spot for an equity calculator. Think about V’s 3-betting range and look at how your hand stacks up against it, if he just bets all of it on this flop, then look at how you’re doing against a more conservative c-betting range. Also consider that you dont’ go to showdown just by calling the flop bet. You’re going to have to play the turn and/or river, and it’s going to be hard to make +EV decisions on those streets.

Yeah I did look at that after I posted this. I was pretty confident at first that this was played ok. But afterwords I realized with his flop bet-sizing that I may have been mistaken. Which I was. I didn’t realize how little equity I really had. I think if he bet like 1/2 pot or less with a x% chance of checking back the turn I would have liked my flop call. I think the bet-sizing plus his 3-betting range is what makes this spot gross. I mean V should be pretty heavily weighted towards over pairs and top pairs with good kickers. So, yeah, mistake on my end.

As played… why are you saying on turn you never fold? Your hand doesn’t looks great, you might be drawing dead against made flush, I was thinking about check/fold turn.Am I missing anything?
You’re absolutely right. I think in retrospect, I thought my hand hand more equity than it actually did. I didn’t realize how thin my equity was here. I just need to work on these spots more off the tables.
