Hi

First strategy post for a new TPE member so go easy!

Early to mid way through a $3 tourney and recently moved to the table so no real reads. I was in two minds about whether this was an overpair or AK/Q/J of diamonds – what are people’s views on what you would do here? Would you firstly call given the value, and maybe play this differently at all?

Thanks

He could have an overpair to the board or a flush draw. As played, I would fold. But I will ask this: If you're not planning on calling an all-in, why are you check-raising? What do you think about leading out, and then folding if he raises? The difference is you invest fewer chips to get what is essentially the same result.

I don't really like donking or check-raising, because in both cases you can't feel too good about it if you're called, which means you're essentially turning your hand into a bluff. What you have is a bluff-catcher, and I think this is a clear check-call.
