This is another marginal spot I wasn't sure what to do. Final 2 tables of $5.50 tourney. To sum up, It folds round to me and I open jam 15bb with J9s on the button into blinds with relatively similar stack sizes to mine.

The blinds had been restealing all in against button opens so I didnt want to raise-fold or raise-call. I decided I wasn't in the mood for folding and shoved. This is the bottom of my shoving range in this spot but is a good enough hand?

Shove is fine.

That chart is pretty good.

If you think villains are calling correctly then you can follow the chart to be unexploitable. If they're calling tighter then u can shove wider. If they call wider then have a tighter range yourself.

Any two suited cards above 8 are probably fine to shove 15 BBs with on btn(post antes).  I wouldnt shove something like k3s or k3o here though!  a lot of peole underestiamte the value of hands liek 98s/t9s here, even hands liek JTo are probably fine to shove here.  Being flipping a lot and having live cards is very beneficial as well as making straights(and in this case flushes).

Think about it, how often does he have you dominated here?  AJ (maybe KJs), and A9, and 99+

Aj = 12 combos

a9= 12 combos

99 = 3 combos

JJ = 3 combos

TT, QQ-AA = 6 combos each = 24 combos.

Thats only 54 combos.  Now count the combos we are not dominated by(since we are never dominating), 55-88 = 18 comobs, KQ = 16 combos, At/AQ/AK/A8 = 64 combos!

So many hands we are super live against versus a few were are not in great shape against.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the feedback. That chart is great by the way.

When we say “If they call wider, shove wider than equilibrium”… What are the correct call ranges that it expects opponents to call with versus the ranges it says to shove. If we shove 15%, are they supposed to call with top 5% or something?

Basically, I'm not sure how to know if someone is calling too wide etc

I think the easiest way to learn calling ranges and hence being able to categorise other players as calling too tight is to study Nash (equilibrium) calling ranges yourself. You can use holdem resources for this.

Try common scenarios like:

– Bb calling range for 10bb BU shove Post-ante

– BB calling range for 5bb MP shove post/pre ante

etc

Also programs like SNGWiz will help you with calling ranges also. HUD is also an important tool to use.

shove seems great especially if you think opponents will be calling you too tight (this is likely since its basically all in for them too)
